Looks like Intel is dropping prices again big time. Quadcore Q6600 for 266
K10's gonna have to be priced relatively cheap or it's gotta have some extraordinary performance increase over conroe and kentsfield to be competetive in the mainstream consumer market.

Getting better and better, however the ever increasing FSB is gonna make it just a bit more difficult to get the killer clocks.

Eh, knowing myself, I'll probably just end up with one of those upcoming $50 Celeron 400 series which is a single core 1MB cache version of Core 2 Duo (Core Solo on the notebook end), for lack of a better description. Or maybe one of those $80 Pentium E chips, which are 1MB cache Core 2 Duos (unless I'm reading it wrong).

Incredible. So far I've been somewhat sarcastic about this multi-core pushes in the industry, but with that kind of prices it's just going to be a no brainer. $266 for Q6600 that's like less than half the price per core compared to current price of E6600.

wow, thats freakin awesome. i did notice an error though in the second chart...the E6550 is colored as a quad core part, which it obviously isn't...

i'm a little suprised they don't have a lower clocked (like 2.2ghz or something) quad part...i think it would at least be a good sales pitch, i'm sure there are lots of buyers that would be in for a budget quad core part. though perhaps they realize that it would invalidate several dual parts, as it would have to be like $230.

That quad sounds great!

In another year I have hopes of it being pretty low then; might upgrade then if I have the cash and if games struggle.

Does anyone have any info on whether or not Intel will cut the price on mobile CoreDuo and Core2Duo processors? I have a pretty sweet notebook that's just waiting for a Core2Duo upgrade!

That price chart is a distributers price based on the purchase of 1000 cpus, you will not see that price at retail for a very long time if ever.

The price cuts seem to coincide with Barcelona's release, so perhaps Intel is privy to some figures? Then again, it could simply be a case of taking away some of the limelight surrounding Barcelona on its release. Either way, a quad for around the price of E6600 today is going to be too tempting for most.

The retail price is not that much more, like about 20 bux based on previous price releases/price cut charts with the Core2 duo launch being the exception since there was a shortage of Core 2 duos, but the price dropped back down to near expected price levels within 2 months.

Whoa... $266 is pretty freaking nuts. I want, but I don't have the money

Edit: Also, since the FSB is low in comparison to the 1333 chips, the quadcore should have some overclocking headroom. If I make some money over spring break I might have to get one of these... my GF is gonna kill me :\

Amazing.

nVidia/ATi could learn from Intel here...

Wait, so when are these chips prices to be set (I can't read the site)?

Edit: Read the title of the chart... H2 of 07. Since I'm going to Korea in August and returning in December, I think I might have some packages awaiting me

You guys are misreading the pricing chart.

It's $266 in lots of 1000, ie. you must buy at least 1000 CPU's to get that price.

Then again, we could use the "AT effect" to advantage and do a group buy.

??

Processor prices have always been quoted in 1Ku quantities, but distributors always get 30/60-day discounts, rebates, and other incentives. For instance, Intel currently lists E6600 at $316 (official), but it sells for $313 at Newegg.

Just this announcement is gonna destroy core 2 extreme X6800 sales. Why get a $1000 2.93 ghz part now when u can get a 3ghz part for close to a fifth of the price? And its TDP is less than the core 2 extreme X6800.

This will be sweet. Can't wait for April 22nd
AMD are already struggling with profits. What are they gonna do after april 22nd?

And i guess this also shows that intel can afford to cut prices and that their manufacturing process is really good(3 ghz core 2 duo at less than $ 300 with 65W TDP)

As I put in my edited post, I'm fairly sure these prices are going to come in the 2nd half of 2007. I think the regular price cut that was mentioned before (Q6600 for $531) will hold come April. If not... I think I might have $266 burning a hole in my pocket
