Def not trading "up" now!

makes me glad that i got the viewsonic vx for hundreds less.

Except it cant do half the things the dell monitor can. Of course the banding issue make it worthless really, you miss the point. If one is so worried about color accuricy, why would one turn to a muted-color inaccurite LCD that is only a step better than Dells with many less features? There are nore than just the dell widescreen 21' out there.

You people confuse me.

After I read every post in many Forum about problem banding.
And I check my 2007fp it is LPL UXGA LTM201U05 mfg feb in china ( it S-IPS )

I test with black picture I can see blacklight bleed (upper right) Is it nomal or not.? ( I not see it when Plug on and test immediately. After 20 min. it occur)
Is (upper right) a point of power supply or not it very hot than other. Is it true I think all of 2007fp must have problem.

What can I do? return it or keep it and If I return it Dell will return 20" to me or not?

What different between 2007 fp S-IPS mfg Feb and April

Later panels have cheaper Samsung PVA panels. The earlier ones got the nicer S-IPS panel. I would say you got lucky. If you actually got this for the price of the 1907 you got extremely lucky.

There is banding on all the Dell 2007 monitors, but it is fine for text work...

I just picked up a new 2007WFP last night. The banding problem is there, and it's worse than any pictures I've seen yet. With the gradlin-v0.2-fs app. there is very noticeable banding in the darker reds and greens. Also, the banding is inconsistent - i.e. very dark vertical bands for an inch or so, then virtually none for an inch or so, then evenly spaced bands as the color gets lighter.

Just for comparison sake I ran the gradlin app at work, and the Dell 2001FP shows ***no*** banding whatsoever.

I was wondering. Has anybody tried using another DVI cable - other than the one shipped with the monitor? I don't have a second one to try, and don't feel like spending the cash to see if it makes a difference.

Yes, some even purchased monster cable variety DVI. Don't waste your time/money. And it is somewhat difficult to take a pic of the phenomena. So it often looks worse in person and yes it is not regular but completely uneven.

guidryp, thanks for the reply. I edit photos and vid, and can't have a monitor that won't accurately handle colors. Guess it's going back to Dell. Any issues I should know about with the 2405wfp - I might try that one next...

I guess I got lucky with Dell support,

I emailed them instead of calling and linked some of the banding threads on their forums. Ups was here to pick it up yesterday for a refund even though the 21 day window had passed. =)

YOu referring to the 2007FP being cheaper than the 2005? Yeah, not only do all 2x07s so far have banding, the 2007 has gone to the supposedly cheaper PVA LCD panel. SO that sucks.

Im sorry guys but its really funny how you people are complaining about a monitor which is on the low end price range of 20 inch widescreen monitors, to have a flaw.
Theres not a perfect monitor out there and one with all those features at that price range to have a flaw isnt a surprise. Sure no one wants to pay money to have flaws but i dont see dell fixing the problem becuase its a wast of money for them and theres no point.
I still think its a great monitor

Right now i have the Viewsonic VX2025WM and the Dell 2007wfp is on its way. These two are low end price range and the Viewsonic is 100 dollers less. I read great things about the Viewsonic and alot say its better buy then the Dell. I personally rather see it in person becuase everyone has different tast and go after different features. If your a graphic artist... I wouldnt be buying a low end widescreen to begin with anyway.

Im gonna hook up the Viewsonic today and im not sure if i should just keep the thing and cancle the payment on dell. Plus doesnt the dell have HDMI which is the future of connection so i can care less about DVI not working proper on the dell.

So you're saying it's ok for something that costs $600 to look like ******?

K. I'll keep that in mind when I'm buying a car. "Well it's got a huge dent in the front and its all scratched and theres some parts missing, but thats ok cuz it only costs $15,000!"

CamSpoon your existence is a waste of everyones bandwidth. This isnt a simple flaw like a higher responsetime than advertised or backlight seepage, this is a flashback to 1992 LCD performance. If you play games, shut yer mouth and play em. But if you are serious about color fidelity and thus cannot have banding in your preflight checkup then this is a huge deal.

I also agree with oddity, great point lol

Not too mention that text blur also seems to be an issue with 2x07 panels. Like this:
http://i.pbase.com/o4/04/606404/1/59944402.textComp.jpg (my image)
http://simon.fearby.com/temp/ocau/reviews/2407_Test.jpg (someone elses image)

Add the entertaining discover of "Dancing Banding"
Put your monitor in Multimedia or Gaming mode.
Use checkmon gradient test. This one changes colors at each mouse click.
http://www.ykwong.com/checkemon.html
Change gradient colors: The banding now dances for a second or two until it settles down.

Anyone who looks at the bigger picture will realize that the 2x07 monitors from Dell have junk support electronics in them. They should be avoided at all cost.

That's a result if Dell realizing it is flawed and desiring to dump them in unsuspecting folks. They were no less than $500 less than a month ago, and MSRP'd at around $600.

The consensus seems to be wait - this is a problem across all monitors (some a little more and some a little less, but always present), and a replacement is not going to do you any good. See Ryan Norton's posts and others.

Finally got mine.

Banding problems

Two dead pixels on one... black on red, which is kinda obvious sometimes.

VGA also has banding, it's just very minimal.

Do any of you notice that the banding literally disappears if you hover a window over it and quickly move it away? Then it comes back after a second or so.

Could just be an eye trick, but its suspicious.

Banding is confirmed on my 2007 IPS April 2006 m.i. mexico on DVI under WinXP and OSX as well as on VGA.
I see no noticable difference in banding severity on either operating sys OR any interface !
But , the banding on DVI or VGA is minor. Not as bad as some I have seen here.

I tried to opt for a refund, but im on day 30....ugh.
I have a feeling a firmware update wont fix this.

People I have a theory:

Maybe the 2x07 Monitors could be fixed with a new LCD bios?

Looking in the Dell knowledge base, I found an article that refers to a Sharp LCD that has the exact banding that me and everyone that has posted here has experienced.

Here is a bit from the article:

----------

Color banding can be seen on the Inspiron 8200 with the ATI 9000 and Sharp ASV LCD panel

1. A vbios has been released that corrects the color banding problem.

Color banding can be seen on the Inspiron 8200 with the ATI 9000 video card and Sharp ASV LCD panel

On Inspiron 8200 systems that have the ATI 9000 video card and the Sharp ASV UXGA LCD panel, the screen may have color bands visible on the desktop bitmap or other system graphics. The screen looks as if it is in 16bit color but it is actually in 32 bit color. This is a cosmetic issue and if connected to an external monitor the image will look normal.

A video BIOS update has been released that corrects the color banding seen on Sharp "UltraSharp" UXGA LCD panels. The video BIOS update is availabe from the Dell support web site at: http://support.dell.com.

----------

Obviously it is not the same video card and monitor but as we have seen it is definitely an electronics problem. Maybe flashing the monitor via DVI or USB with a new bios will fix the problem.

Now if only Dell could acknowledge the problem fully in the first place...

isobretatel: Did you get it for $225, or did you buy a system, sell the rest on Ebay and keep the screen? In which case, not quite the same thing. I would say live with it for that price. It is not like you can return it for a refund anyway.

trabpukcip: I don't buy your theory. No driver will fix this. It happens on all the 2x07 monitors, it is not just banding, it is also text blur and pixel jitter. Poor driver electronics. Also it happen with a wide assortment of vid cards, happens with Macs or PCs etc...
