Yeah, the problem though is that the fix only works in desktop mode. It's my understanding though that dell is going to be releasing revisions and will replace the monitor's a third time if they're not fixed.

Actually I think it is more the case of Dell starting with S-IPS and switching over to PVA, not so much random mix and match...
Yeah, that's what I meant - they don't use them together, but rather switch suppliers based on availability and price.

Just got my new 2007WFP yesterday (part of a system order).

Of course I hooked it up (almost) immediately and was I ever surprised to discover no banding in desktop mode! That's right - using a range of the test graphics from this forum I can clearly see banding in multimedia & gaming modes, but the desktop mode is smooth.

My order was placed on May 15 and left the factory May 18. Does that mean that the firmware fix was already available 2 weeks ago? I doubt that it was updated when it reached Australian customs

For reference its the LG panel, the model is A00 and its running from DVI off an NVidia 7900GS gfx card. There's no other info in the service menu that gives a clue to the updated firmware.

Could you compare running games and video (for video both full screen and windowed) between the modes and see if there's any reason to run the other two modes if desktop has fixed the color issue?

I'm curious to see how much the faroudja processing helped.

Well you wouldn't be able to change the firmware yourself anyways, only Dell could, so you would still have to have sent it in to get the firmware upgraded.

I almost wonder if they didn't actually change something and are trying to make it look like they're being generous, but instead are taking advantage of the people who don't notice or complain about it. I'm sure its easier to replace the monitor for the what maybe couple hundred of people who have complained versus recalling all 25,000+ of them.

Are those HL2 shots from Episode 1 in the reactor core level where the walls are bathed in red light? If so, the banding there is quite noticeable on mine too but I saw none in HL2 other than at tunnel ends, nor have I seen it on other games, so I suspect this is one of the few areas where it becomes really noticeable in nonphoto usage.

Also, I saw no difference in this section of the game while using VGA, which is odd because gradient tests show little or no banding on VGA. Thus the problem may be unrelated to the monitor.

Speaking of VGA, how does Dell's explanation of the problem being caused by the Faroujda video processing jive with the difference between VGA and DVI? Was the Faroujda processing disabled originally when using VGA?

Makes sense - they imagined it hooked up to some standalone blueray/hddvd through DVI in order to utilize the HDCP @ full resolution, but could imagine no one using the VGA for video. And they do mark the DVI cable as something ...optional for PCs.

Well I just got mine (holy fast, batman).. Revision A00, made in China

The banding isn't too bad, but bad enough that I'll be sending it back to get a Revision A02. I'm hoping though, that they're going to come out with a fix for the monitor that involves a hardware update that doesn't disable a feature of the monitor. I still haven't been able to figure out what exactly the Fuj[whatever] processing actually is supposed to do.. :/

Yeah they are from HL2 Episode 1. I am not sure if the banding in the pictures are due to banding or just the fog engine being crappy Have someone tried that on another screen?

Does anyone know if the banding issue is fixed? I placed my order yesterday, and I only found out about these problems this morning. I'm deeply concerned, and my job involves graphic design. I really don't want to go through all the hassle of an RMA if the one I receive does have this issue, as it's a waste of time. I'm seriously thinking about cancelling the order and requesting a refund...

DHL just dropped off a replacement tonight. I will test it and get back to you tomorrow.

I finally got around to testing the replacement unit that DHL dropped off to me. I have it hooked up via DVI, alongside my ViewSonic vx2025wm, and I must say that I see very little banding this time around. It looks to be just as good as the Viewsonic, although the Viewsonic has a slight edge in gradient testing. In real worrl use, I can't seem to notice any. If you switch to mulitmedia mode, the banding becomes horrible, as it was on my first unit. This is a revision A02, made in Mexico (of course). I forgot to mention that this also has the same LG.Philips S-IPS LM201W01 panel that came with my first revision A00 monitor.

Recieved my replacement today through DHL and hooked it up next to my existing monitor. There is no banding evident in Desktop Mode, the difference is actually very notable when runing gradlin-v0.2-fs and having the two monitors next to eachother. There is still banding in the other two modes, which is fine by me. The important part for me is that it is still an S-IPS monitor, either through the fact that I requested one or pure luck Glad to see they fixed the problem.

So if I send mine in they're going to send me a different monitor? What if I want the same monitor back? This one doesn't have any dead pixels and I don't want to take any chance they might send me one with dead pixels.

BTW, how do I go about sending my monitor in for repair? Will they send me a new one before I have to send this one in? How exactly does this who procedure work? I can't go without a monitor for a week or two.

You send an e-mail to Chris in the Dell forums, see the Dell forums for details. Then they send you an replacement and you mail the old one back in the box you recieved the new monitor in. So you won't be without a monitor. As for the dead pixel issue I have not noticed that on the two I have had.

That link isn't working.

Has anyone received a A02 without banding? Or, for that matter, has anyone recieved any version without banding?

Okay, I got my monitor this morning. In desktop mode there is barely any banding at all. I drew up a bunch of big multi-color gradients in Photoshop and zoomed in like 400%, and I can barely see any banding still. I then changed to multimedia/gaming mode and right then and there the banding was clearly evident. Well overall I will be keeping the monitor. I played a few games in Desktop mode and they were fine, so I don't think I'll ever be changing to the other display modes.

What's the image and response difference with those different modes? Nothing lost in contrast, response times etc. when using only desktop mode?

Dell UK have dropped the price by £100. It's £302, which for me is a great price. The main usage would be a mixture of general web browsing/word processing, and gaming - also I plan to get an xbox 360 at some point, so the idea would be to hook up to this monitor. Any thoughts. I've asked dell what revision they are selling. Should I go ahead if it's A02?
