Valves can't be shimmed, but the lifters can be swapped. 130k, haven't done before, recommended is every 60k (which is a little proactive according to some).

Radio has been on every time it's 'sounded like farting' [3x maybe], and is always on.

The 'louder' engine noise might just be me, but I could swear when I take a right turn / exit ramp in a spirited manner that I hear it. Air intake snorkel is probably securely fastened, I duck-taped it on last time it fell out (squishy foam insulation/seal degraded from snorkel being loose for too long)

I did see that, no I'm not (wish I were) and I'm wondering why I haven't been notified. Except that my engine is a 2008 in a rebuilt 06 tC.

I can't imagine a sound like what you're describing having anything to do with the valves

Side note related to your engine- I'm not sure if you heard , but if you're burning oil there's a warranty extension now where they will basically re-piston your engine for you. Have to do a test and show you're consuming more than 1.2 qts per 1200 mi I think

http://www.toyoheadquarters.com/threads/excessive-oil-consumption-on-2az-fe-engine-lsc-ze7.362/

Couldn't be valve blow by from valve not closing all the way?

Edit: oh, because the tC is 2006 which is outside the model year.

I've been using 0w20 Mobil 1 AFE lately so...if I had to guess that wouldn't be a problem for me (good, thin, synthetic oil)

I've noticed the exhaust sounds a bit noisier than it used to, and I suppose the idle is more rough.

What sort of shop would folks recommend?

Without having heavily modified your engine (and then I'd expect you would know exactly why the exhaust note changed), the most likely culprit is an exhaust leak somewhere. I'd take it to a muffler shop.

I think I agree. It also only happens when turning sharply to the right. To the left, I have not been able to replicate.

Would probably make more sense to list the YMM of the car instead of the engine in the thread title don't you think?

No, because there are often different engines in the same YMM.

I'm used to hearing engines referred to by their codes, so I knew what was meant.

It's the same as saying LS1 or LSA.

LSA is a Lexus car last I checked. LS1 is a GM V8 engine of some sort (push rod small block IIRC-that's about all I could tell you about it with any certainty).

Engine designations are meaningless to 99% of the driving public... even car enthusiasts.

LFA is a Lexus. It has a 1LR-GUE in it.

LSA is a GM V8 engine.

LSA is normally found in:
2009–2013 Cadillac CTS-V
2012–present Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

And I'm sure it's in a Holden or two.

People in the garage forum might have an LS1 GM V8 engine transplanted into all sorts of vehicles.

Same for various Honda and Toyota engines. Car nuts swap engines around.

So you say "LS1", instead of naming the car. You name the engine.

Yes, I am aware of that. LS1 is a term I am familiar with.

2AZ-FE is not a term I am familiar with.
