As some of you might know, GM replaced the LS2 engine in the base Corvette with the new LS3 engine for 2008. LG Motorsport did their dyno and got 387.8 rwhp. MTI just did theirs and got 395.3 rwhp and 384.5 torque. That's some serious power from the new 6.2L V8.

MTI 2008 LS3 C6 Base

LS2 only lasted 3 years in Corvette which is a record for the shortest length of time. I guess that means LS2 vette will become collector's car in the future.

We should now be able to see 1/4 mile times in the high 11s with a stock 2008 C6.

I wouldn't say it's underrated but it sure is impressive. If anything I would say the LS2 was overrated. It's already putting some heat in the Z06 market as the base C6 is now a CAI, header, and a tune away from matching stock Z06 power. A Dallas dealer is already discounting $7000 off new 2007 Z06. If I can get that on a new 2008 Z06, I might have to make the switch. But 2008 C6 1LT with NPP exhaust for around 42k after discounts? Nothing can touch it bang for buck new.

I don't think that the LS2 will be worth too much more in the future, as the C6 will get replaced in 2009 or 2010 by the C7. I think that's probably the shortest lived Corvette though (2005-2010?), so the C6 in general might be worth more.

I was just joking about the LS2 C6 being collectible. LS2 lasted only 3 years (2005-2007). This new engine for 2008 is the LS3. The is no reason C7 still can't use the LS3, and I doubt C7 will arrive anytime before 2010. 2011-2012 is probably the more likely scenario.

No wonder it beats the 911 Turbo around VIR

Now that i think about it, it might have been the LS2 C6...

got to be underrated, if you do the math, that's only a 9.3% drivetrain hp loss and 10.1% drivetrain torque loss. Thats way too little, I believe standard for a manual FR is 15%

If we take 15% as standard,
465*.85= the dyno indicated 395.3hp so The engine is making closer to 465 or 466hp.
452.5*.85= ~ the dyno indicated 384.5tq

So yeah it probably is underrated to protect Z06 sales.

After looking at the numbers, it is likely underrated. Rumors last year reported LS3 of having 450 hp by insiders working at GM.. When the official numbers were released by GM, they rated it at 430 hp and 435 hp with the optional NPP exhaust. Looking at the numbers, 450 hp looks about right if 13% drivetrain loss is used. LS7 505hp x .87 = 440rwhp which about the average for Z06. LS3 450hp x .87 = 392 rwhp which is what we're seeing at the dyno.

13% seems a bit low for the drivetrain loss.

I think that was their point.

And I was reiterating that point in my own lovely way.
