Hey everybody,

I am going to purchase a car very soon for daily driving. I commute about 45 mins to work everyday and have narrowed it down to 2 cars. They both cost the same amount believe it or not.

EDIT

Went to buy caddy and did not have the features I wanted.

Now moving to a used acura tl. Anyone have any advice on it?

We bought a 2009 CTS new and it is one of the best GM vehicles we've ever purchased.
But is it one of the best vehicles you've bought period? Qualifying it as one of the best GM vehicles doesn't mean a lot to a lot of GM haters

I would go with a brand new Honda. The CTS is a great car but against a new Honda...

+1 for CTS

Not only does it look better, but I've heard the reliability is very good. Not that the Accord reliability is bad (just the opposite) I just wouldn't worry about there being a big disparity between the two.

while the accord is good and will be a sensible choice, I find it too boring for my taste.
+1 for CTS

Well, interestingly .. new is the way to buy Hondas (their lack of immediate depreciation makes buying a 2-4 year old model kinda sucky as incentives/etc on brand news end up costing so close that you may as well buy new), and used is the way to buy things like Caddy, BMW, Mercedes where there is a steep drop-off in price during that period.

The CTS has overall great marks on reliability. What options/motor/etc does this particular one have?

I'd lean CTS myself, but to be honest as long as the CTS has been decently taken care of, this is win/win.

Easy pick: CTS

2008 is the current generation CTS. While the accord is good, the CTS is a different class of car. The interior, for starters, is a different class

Go with CTS. I generally hate GM, but the CTS looks very bold. It also has god great reviews.

I don't know of any significant problems with CTS outside of some issues with 1st gen CTS-V.

http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Cadillac_CTS/2008/

I know I've not heard any horror stories about them.

>> http://motortrend.automotive.com/114903/112-0910-2008-cadillac-cts-verdict/index.html 2008 Long-Term MT wrap-up.
'03 CTS had problems with the crank position sensor and thermostat
'04-'07 CTS had problems with oil burning, premature timing chain failure

All first gen had slow clutch return in cold weather, transmission cooler leak due to poorly-designed fitting

Dunno about the 2nd gen, but that's because I don't own one

WOW! Overwhelming response for the CTS. So that is what I will prob get then. I will upload pics of the car when I get it, which should be on mon/tues.

Thank you for all the help guys. I was somewhat surprised by the response.

Well most are saying the CTS brand is better not the car you are looking at.
Make sure to check it out and also see if there are any active recalls etc...
It still has some warranty so you should be ok. BUt if you find a pile of items that already need attention it may have been a unloved car that was beaten on.

Cliffs, check it out real well to make sure you are a happy long term owner.

I have an early production '08 and have had no problems with it. I just get the oil changed when the computer gets close to 20% and rotate the tires. There has been only one recall and that was for the heated windshield washer unit. The 3.6DI has been pretty good and gets about 26-28mpg on the highway. In the city, I dip closer to 17mpg, but a RWD model should get better. The car also runs on regular gas only which is unique in the segment.

Hey everybody,

I am going to purchase a car very soon for daily driving. I commute about 45 mins to work everyday and have narrowed it down to 2 cars. They both cost the same amount believe it or not.

Honda is new.
CTS has 34k on it. clean carfax.

Does anyone know anything about the reliability of the Cadillac? I heard quality has had some serious improvements recently.

Obviously the looker is the CTS but I don't want to nailed down with repairs all the time.

Thanks for the input.

1) Accord is a full size and the CTS is basically a compact car
2) Accord is a boat inside and out and the CTS is like a Civic inside for space
3) Accord is FWD and CTS is RWD
4) Accord is fugly and CTS is pretty damn fugly in the rear end
5) Go to forums and check out issues. 2008 CTS had steering column issues.
6) I would get the Cadillac if someone put a gun to my head

The Accord V6 seems to be quicker and it gets considerably better fuel economy.

The 4 cylinder is not that slow either, and of course crushes in fuel economy.
