Ditto,
Ford is considered one of the BETTER brands in Europe and much more popular than the Japanese cars..
So why the Ford would not capitalize on that is beyond me.
It is quite possible that Ford is trying to commit a suicide in the US?

I think this new thing looks like crap. The Mazda 3 is leaps and bounds nicer. It does have a Volvo-looking interior though.
I am sure Ford doesn't mind if you buy a Mazda3 over the Focus, seeing how it owns a huge chunk of Mazda.

Also, let's not forget that you're going to be paying a lot more for the Mazda (with incentives, the Focus is selling for around $13k for the highest end model).
It is also weird how Ford operates. Others have brought it up. Ford makes some of the best selling vehicles in the world, yet they keep those top sellers separate on each continent (F-150 here, Focus in Europe etc). The Focus used to be similar, but even then, the European version did offer more.
They can charge significantly more for a car the size of a Focus in Europe, hence they can afford to put more into, making the European Focus a classier act. It's as simple as that.Originally posted by: Strk

I always have hated their logo. The rest of the car may look all good then bam. A plain unsymmetrical logo.

Well, that may be the case with the 3, but I got an awesome deal on the Speed6 because no one knows about them. ~$7k under MSRP, ~$4k under dealer invoice.

Well, it is the first new car I've had in 14 years...
Also, nobody knowing about it has served me well. The town registered me as a 4 cylinder Mazda "6 series"...for $100 less than I was expecting.

Looks pretty nice. I'm glad they are going with a coupe version instead of the hatchback though.
