dunno likes kinda strange I remember the fronter or whatever you call the truck they were selling going for 9,999 a few years ago. Now it's up to 14K? How did that happen? Shouldn't it be 6K with 40% off?

The the van looks like a pretty good deal if you needed a van.

You are remembering too long time ago Back in 1999 (when I first came to the States), MSRP of Frontier was around 22k, so it went up 3k (or 13.6%) last 9 years (So, 1.5% increase per year). Not bad if you ask me, as that's about usual annual price increase for autos.

SOme dealers are really looking to unload SUVs and trucks. I heard an ad 2 days ago that was advertising up to 16K off of trucks and SUVs on th eradio. Not sure what dealer it was, might have been nissan, though.

I wonder if its the typical bait n switch (sorry, only applies to that one stock #, ie one truck).

In case you guys haven't noticed, there is a big, huge shortage of 4-cylinder cars... due to the demand for them.

I live in the Lexington, I have purchased 3 Nissan Altima's from them, over the past 7 years. They are pretty legit.

Do you think they are just cutting their losses, or are markups on these big trucks and suvs so high that they at least break even or even still make money on a sale?

Makes sense. They lose money on it every day it sits on the lot. Can't they just send the cars back to the manufacturer though ?
If the dealer can't sell it are they stuck with it ?

My understanding is they are. The problem is that in the next year or two the price of trucks and SUVs may drop initially, but my guess is the factories and lots will start making/stocking less and less so if you're going to get a good deal on one it's gonna be in the next year or so. Then you may get stuck paying an even more inflated price.

I wonder if these auto dealers are facing the same type of liquidity problems home builders and mortgage lenders face.

Since they can't borrow to continue operations, they have to sell what they can to mobilize capital to continue to run their business (?)
