2009 Honda Pilot - First drive

I'm just gonna throw this out now and probably repeat it every time I see reviews of ANY new vehicle getting anything less than 20mpg..........

HowTF are these car makers going to sell any descent numbers of any of these sub-20mpg vehicles w/ gas at $4/gal??? (If it's not $4 by the time I hit "reply to topic", just keep hitting F5, the numbers are going up faster than I can keep track)

I'm seein' paper plate Hummers, Suburbans, Tahoes, Expeditions.............and hell.........I can't even justify something w/ a fuel-efficient V-6 in it anymore!!

I'm not seein' any mpg #'s right now, but previous versions of the Pilot are showin' mid to high teens (some horror stories on edmunds about less) and and I'll guess the '09 will be the same.

I couldn't consider anything bigger than the CRV right now and I think the HOnda Fit is about as SUV as I'm gonna check out any time soon!!

My father's Pilot (current generation, '04 I think) averages 22 in his driving. Anyone getting mid-teens with one needs to re-think his driving habits.

yea. friend leases a pilot. she gets around 22-25 mpg

but i agree with you. i dont see how car companies expect to sell sub 20 mpg cars in large volumes anymore

We used to spend a lot on stuff we didn't need. Now our economy is going to halt because we are spending that money on gas and food.

Any 4000lb.+ vehicle (4500lbs. in the '09 Pilot) is going to be hard pressed to get over 20mpg in anything but 100% highway driving. It's just basic physics.

When is the 2009 Pilot coming out? I saw a press release that said "Spring 2008", but no specific date. I am in the market and might consider this, despite the crappy mileage. I need three rows of seats (7 passenger) and something that can carry a canoe

FYI. I signed up for updates about the new Pilot, and got a msg almost immediately saying the 2009 will arrive at dealers in May.
