woooooooooo lakers! just got back from the staples center and left before it got really crazy. so hopefully the team rests up, enjoy their title, and get ready to defend next year in their bid for a back-to-back!

Mitch Kupchak won't get much rest. He's gonna have to figure how to keep odom and ariza.

there best bet is to get kobe to opt out and sign a new deal but for less than max. If Kobe wants a max deal and Ariza and Odom want max deals the lakers are gonna have a problem.

they are already looking at 74 mil for next year w/o odom and ariza.

giving ariza a max would be stupid. they need to resign odom. you can find another ariza, you can't find another odom.

ariza is the james posey of the lakers. someone is going to overpay him and he's gonna leave. it won't really matter because if the front office does its job, they'll find a replacement.

You mean there arent any consistently inconsistent lengthy big men in the NBA?

no one else drops gems like this

I think Gasol's play was a pretty big difference maker for the Lakers also in the playoffs.

Odom is a more athletic less polished version of Turkoglu. which is by no means a bad thing.

i always thought Odom was the wild card for the lakers. last year i felt the lakers would win or lose based on the quality of Odom's play. this year, Odom and Gasol, and Gasol stepped up into the elite class of centers in my opinion this year, made the difference.

It is good to see Kobe finally escaping from Shaq's shadow and cementing himself as one of the premier players ever in the NBA.

The best team in the league won the title, and rightfully so: they fought tooth-and-nail against some serious competition to get there. They got lazy and cocky last year because of their fairly easy road to the Finals (kind of like the Cavs did this year). The Lakers finally had some true tests and showed some toughness. They earned it!

And the greatest thing is, the Lakers are poised to repeat for the next few years. Only two players on their championship roster are 30 or greater: Kobe (30, still in his prime) and Derek Fisher (34, just a roleplayer at this point). If they are willing to pay the luxury tax and keep Odom and Ariza around, the Lakers could be contenders for the next few years. Unlike the Celtics, who's main players are on the wrong side of 30...

And Phil Jackson takes his rightful place as the best coach in NBA history.

i'm a fisher fan, but explain to me when in his career, he was anything other than a "role" player?

Sorry guys but I'd choose Ariza over Odom and many sports writes agree. Ariza is young and has been much more consistent than Odom and made much bigger plays. Odom will never be happy coming off the bench. If they can keep both then great but no way both would take paycuts. Odom is just still too inconsistent to consider a good player. When he decides to play he's an awesome player but that's very rare. Ariza had great defense on Turkey-Glue.

The Lakers have gone over the salary cap in the past to give the team a chance at defending their title. I would be surprised to see both Ariza and Odom in Laker uniforms next year but it wouldn't be shocking.

I don't think Odom is ANYTHING like Turkoglu, other than their size advantages.

Turkoglu is an excellent ball handler, shooter, distributor

Odom is an excellent defender, rebounder, garbageman

They both are good at a variety of other things, Odom specifically, but teams who would look at Turk/Odom would do so for very different reasons.

For example, I think if you straight up traded Turk for Odom I don't think either team makes the finals. They fill very different roles.

what are you talking about, odom is a very good ball handler, he often brings the ball down for the lakers. very good shooter and distributes well. he is a more athletic less polished version of hedo.

You both are right.

And I totally agree with Platinum. Lakers have no need for Turk with Kobe and Pau leading offensively, but depend on Odom's ability to fill holes where needed. And Orlando wouldn't advance without Turk leading their offensive needs, something Odom can't provide. Both hugely different type of players, but the main value difference between Turk and Odom imo is that Turk can be a team leader to look to every night (within his strengths), but Odom can't because he's too inconsistent.
