As any person gets older, they'll only become more mature and smarter hopefully in everything they do. Obviously if you had two stars in one team, there will be a big clash. So the whole Shaq versus Kobe thing was inevitable.

True, Kobe has become more trusting of his teammates - and he has some good ones, like Pau Gasol - but as recently as 18 months ago, Kobe wanted out of LA. He was so serious about being moved to Chicago that he supposedly attempted to dictate which players could be involved, as he didn't want the Bulls' cupboard to be entirely bare.

In the early 80's, the Lakers locker room was divided; you had the "Magic faction" and the "Kareem faction". Magic and Kareem didn't get along, but they controlled their own egos enough so as not to destroy the team.

It's great that Kobe's maturing into more of a genuine team leader, but that doesn't erase what he was for the previous dozen years.

WWE Monday Night Raw and Nuggets Game 4 have conflicting schedules for the same arena...
Text

Looks like from a legal standpoint, WWE has the advantage since the arena was booked last year and the contract signed just as the Nuggets regular season ended. I'm sure the Nuggets will still be able to play at their home arena that night though and the WWE will make other accommodations.

Shame on the Pepsi Center management for not even believing in their own team based on their past history..

Actually since the Nba isn't squirming or getting involved at all, I think they are top dog here. I suspect contractually they take presidence over anyone else in booking the pepsi center during playoffs.

Too bad for the pepsi center management company...they are finally going to profit from the nuggets going deep into the playoffs yet are going to have to pay off wwe a large sum to get lost. WWE also is slotted with the usa channel for that slot as well.

Time to get it on between the Nuggets and Lakers.

I'd like the Cavs in the east, but am indifferent in the west. I'm just hoping for a great series and think it has potential to be one. Hopefully the foul calls on either team aren't ascenine and lopsided. These are a couple of aggressive teams and the refs to should let them play physical.

That said it will probably come down to who's bench is more effective - both can be very influential.

Actually, i think the largest factor in this series will be bynum vs. Nene.

Whichever stays out of foul trouble and plays better defense will tip the scales for their team.

As a laker fan, that both excites me and worries me.

It is the Laker's series to lose. Frankly if they go out and play the non-existant defense like they did in Games 1, 4, and 6......they dont deserve to be in the finals.

Nuggs - Lakers is going to be a very scrappy matchup. I have a feeling there will definitely be some flared tempers and possibly some ejections. I just get the feeling that Carmelo Anthony, Nene, Kenyon Martin and Kobe will be running their mouth pretty much the entire time.

Hate on Mark Cuban all you want, but out of all the teams left, the Nuggets are definitely the biggest 'Thugs'.

You mean you're worried about Bynum getting his @ss kicked, because the way bynum has (or hasn't) played it's not possible to be the other way around.

Both team tho have other bigs who'll be factors in the middle as well, so its going to be a tough place for either team to get a big edge imo.

Jerry West: "Lebron > Kobe"

WASHINGTON -- LeBron James is the best player in the NBA, surpassing veteran Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, 14-time All-Star guard Jerry West said Monday.

West, a shrewd judge of talent who brought Bryant to the Lakers when he was their general manager, said the Cleveland Cavaliers forward could become the league's next Michael Jordan.

West says he'd still want Kobe Bryant to take the last shot. But he'd take LeBron James if he were starting a franchise.

"I look at Cleveland [and] say to myself, 'How many games could they win without LeBron James?'" West told Reuters in an interview. "That's how great he is.

"He has a chance to be arguably the greatest player ever to play the game."

West, the NBA's executive of the year with the Lakers in 1995 and the Memphis Grizzlies in 2004, said playing both ends of the floor was what made Jordan so great.

"Michael Jordan was the best defensive player in the league but he was also the best offensive player," said West. "It wasn't a one-year fluke, he proved it over time.

"LeBron James will do the same type of things because he's getting better. He's a much more effective shooter. When's he's making his shots from the outside, you can't play him.

"He's just too big, too strong, too quick. And he has incredible body control. But more than that, he's a great teammate. You can see his teammates love him."

West told Bloomberg Television in an interview that starting a team with James is a "no-brainer."

"If you look at basketball today, it's not always the big guys that win for you, it's the intermediate-size guys," West said, according to Bloomberg. "[He] can play four positions if you ask him to do so, and his ability to get everyone involved in the game is just remarkable for someone his age. I don't know if there's a better athlete I've ever seen play professional basketball."

[/b]
James averaged 28.4 points this season and was named the NBA's MVP. But Bryant, a three-time NBA champion and 2008 MVP, still remains a force, said West.

"If I had to have somebody make a last-second shot, it would be Kobe Bryant," said West, architect of the great Lakers teams from the Magic Johnson years in the 1980s through the Shaquille O'Neal-led teams earlier this decade.

"But even though it's hard for me to be objective, because I brought Kobe to Los Angeles, I do think LeBron has surpassed Kobe as a player."

West, 70, was in Washington attending a conference for atrial fibrillation, a condition he has that can cause a racing heart, sleeplessness, anxiety and depression.

The condition, diagnosed at age 42, forced him to leave the front office of the Lakers and then the Grizzlies in 2007.

West, a member of the Lakers' 1972 title team, said he does not think about how he would fare in today's NBA but added, "I would be competitive, trust me."

Hopefully it is settled on the court in June.

That being said, nobody is talking Cleveland/Orlando. Does Orlando even have a shot?

This is what makes Lebron great and Kobe scum. Kobe will throw you under the bus the first chance he gets

I'm predicting several cheapshot elbows/knees from Kobe... and the refs will call it on the other guy too

Orlando can definitely play with cleveland. Orlando went 2-1 in the regular season with a couple strong wins in orlando, losing a tight game in cleveland. Their first win was with jameer nelson, but their second win last month was a blowout of cleveland without him.

It won't be a sweep. Orlando is pretty good.

Yep, if the "smart, gutsy" Magic show up, and hit their 3's, they could beat the Cavs. They have the team personnel to do to LBJ what the Celtics did last year.

Looking at the teams overall, it's actually a pretty close matchup in terms of overall roster talent. And if JR Smith goes off...

If both the Lakers and Nuggs play to the best of their ability, the games will be close. The difference is the Lakers have the best clutch scorer in the NBA.

So, you think the Lakers will win on the Cavs' home court, where Cleveland was 39-2?

What was 50% of those 2 losses?

If it came down to it, LA would steal one of the first 2 in Cleveland. Game 7 I wouldnt be so sure about.

That mean LA's due for a loss, then.

Srsly, Game 7 @ Cleveland would be a horrible situation for the Lakers. if the Lakers were to win the series, I think it would be in 6. Like you said, LA would be more likely to take one of the first 2 games in Cleveland.

Agreed. Orlando matches up well against Cleveland and they did beat them twice this year.
The magic, much like the 2004 - 2005 suns, play a very spread out offense. It relies on 3 pointers, but it also spreads out the defense a lot which creates holes. If the Magic play their game right, they could definitely win a few games. I'm not so sure they could win the series tho.

looking forward to this matchup. guessing courtney lee checking LBJ, if they can prevent him getting in paint too often with Dwight patrolling middle, Orlando might have a chance. and dwight better exploit his matchups, b/c don't think big Z/Varejao/Wallace will have as much success as Kendrick Perkins did.
