I don't think he's going to be able to cash in on 11 rebates (well, 22, since it's 2 rebates per drive.) The rebate is limited to one per name/customer/address. Unless all eleven were purchased with separate receipts, and he plans on giving them to 11 friends and having the friends cash in the rebates...

Wow, I'll visit later this week.
Hope not sold out.

How about Bestbuy in Crossroads?

Dude, who made you king?

I think you really need to go to the stores and check yourself. You don't know that the employees are looking at the box, then at the drive label themselves and then telling you 160 when they really 200's and wanting to save it for themselves and their friends!

Good luck trying to return it AT ALL w/o it. (160gb.. returning a 200gb defective drive.. hrm..)

I also wonder if WD will replace it w/ a 200 or a 160 should you RMA it..

Also, mine seems to be rather loud as it's spinning up, but afterwards it's fine

As long as the serial number matches they have to take it for warranty... They were the ones that messed up.

I checked my warranty online with WD, showed up as good until 8-26-2006, so I don't forsee any problems with that.

Get off your lazy ass and look for yourself.

If some punk smacked me on my way out of ANY store, he'd be freaking dead. That's what you'd get for being a lazy annoying ass motherfvcker. I hate people like you.

*edit*
Also, they probably TOLD you they had some, then when you got there they were like 'oh.. wait.. someone walked away just FIVE minutes ago with all of them.

Well I stopped by the BB in King of Prussia on my lunch break today, and there was one 1600JB box on the shelf, and it was, indeed, a 1600JB and not a 2000JB. So either there were never any of the "special" 1600JB boxes at my BB, they all sold out, or the BB employes pulled them as someone here mentioned might be happening.

However, $0.62 a gig is a great price for this drive, so I grabbed it anyway. The rebadged WD's at Circuit City are only 1 year warranty, and most of the other deals lately have been Maxtors which I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. The HD controller is a nice touch too, I am all out of IDE channels.

So if it turns out all the 2000JB's are gone, I think it's still a very hot deal. Just not as hot as $0.50 a gig.

I know that he got seperate receipts for each one, but how he plans on handling the rebates.... I have no idea. I called and told him about the situation and he called me back five hours later saying what he'd done. To be honest, I think he just got a wee bit too exicited and over did it without thinking about what he was going to do after.

There are still a few left at the Laurel, MD store. At least 3-4 on the shelf and a couple mixed in with the 40GBs on the shelf above. Good luck!

The one I picked up only shows up as 128G in XP, but it's definately a 200G drive. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? The drive I'm booting off of is a 80G drive.

2 of the 3 stores in SLC, UT are all 160GB didn't check the Sandy one.

Oh and sandmanwake, you either have to parition in smaller drives, use the provided card which will update XP, or you must be using Service Pack 1 with XP.

I did use the ATA card for the 200 gig drive. Are you guys saying I should also hook up my 80 gig drive to it and make the 200 gig a slave? I ran the tool that came with the drive and partitioned it up, but windows still sees it as one large drive. Let me give it another shot, this time with a smaller size partition. Thanks guys.

For anyone who ran into similar problems as me, I finally got Windows to reconize all 180ish gigs of the HD but I had to use the Data Lifeguard Tool that came with the drive to partition the drive into 2 roughly 100 gig partitions. I wasn't able to do it in Windows. For some reason, when I deleted the second partition on the HD, it reverted back to only seeing it as 10G free space. Now I've just got to figure out why boot up is so slow for me after adding these two 200 Gig drives in with the 80.

RobK, just curious... from where in Maryland were you and how do you know there are still some on the shelves? Do you still have relatives out here?

I'm also interested in driving out to Laurel to pick one up, RobK are you saying that those remaining drives were all 200GB ones?

Yep, that's what I'm saying. I'm home on a temporary assignment, so I'm living in a hotel in Arlington this month. I counted at least 5 of the 200gig-ers on the Laurel shelves. Over the past couple days, I checked out Dulles, Alexandria, Pentagon City, Seven Corners and a couple others with no luck. But Laurel is the jackpot.

Milpitas, CA = 4 drives, all 160's.
San Jose, CA = 1 drive, locked up in a cabinet behind the CS counter, 160 inside.

Poo.
