another on the way out:

Fox has decided not to order additional episodes of Lie to Me, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

That means the third season of the Tim Roth-starring series will run only 13 episodes. Sources close to production say the show has not been canceled, and a decision about its future will be made in the spring.

The Chicago Code, executive produced by Shawn Ryan, will take over Lie's timeslot beginning Monday, Jan. 7 (9/8c).

The most recent episode of Lie to Me averaged 6.38 million viewers.

I don't see this as a bad thing. We used to like the show, but in the past couple of seasons, the show jumped the shark as Lightman got into more and more odd and unusual situations. Because of that and the change to Monday night, where it conflicts with other shows that we like more, we stopped watching.
Time to let it go.

The Good Guys was great B-Movie level fun. I liked it and will miss it.

The Dan Stark character was a classic deluded dirtbag doofus and whoever played that female DA was had one amazingly ssssssssssssssssssmokin' body of the highest, tightest rank, which never hurts.

As long as you accepted/bought into its formulaic limitations and understood what it wasn't as well as what it was, it was a hoot and a holler, I tell you what.

CLOSER, GONE

This is a shocker. TNT's flagship series The Closer is coming to an end with next year's seventh season as its last. This was not a result of contract negotiations gone bad. The contract of star Kyra Sedgwick is up at the end of Season 7 and, like The Office's Steve Carell, she decided to move on. And unlike The Office, TNT and The Closer producer Warner Bros. TV opted to end the series with their star leaving. But The Closer is much more of a single-lead show than The Office. "Kyra is The Closer, it's like continuing The Mentalist without Simon Baker," one insider noted. Sedgwick is certainly leaving on a high note. She just won an Emmy for The Closer in August. Also in the summer, the show helped launch TNT's most promising new series since The Closer, Rizzoli & Isles. That would probably soften the blow to TNT from losing its signature series. The Closer remains the most watched basic cable series of all time and, in its sixth season, which is still underway, it went up from Season 5 in the ratings, a rare feat for a veteran series. Here is TNT's release:

TNT's long-running, breakout hit THE CLOSER will wrap up its phenomenal run with a final season in 2011. The difficult decision to conclude the series with season seven was made by Kyra Sedgwick, the Emmy-winning star of THE CLOSER.
“It’s impossible to fully express our appreciation to Kyra Sedgwick, series creator James Duff and all of the other talented people who brought THE CLOSER to TNT viewers,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “THE CLOSER was a pivotal series in setting a new course for TNT’s original programming, while also serving as a prime example of the storytelling strength possible on cable television.”
“I cannot fathom how difficult it will be to say goodbye to the incredible family we’ve created on THE CLOSER,” Sedgwick said. “I will always be grateful to James Duff for his love and friendship, as well as for creating such a rich and complex character who I have loved living with year after year. Mike, Greer, Rick and all of our outstanding cast and crew are forever in my heart. I want to thank TNT and Warner Bros. Television, as well as the incredible fans of THE CLOSER, for all of their unwavering support over the last seven years.”
THE CLOSER proved to be a resounding success after its debut on TNT in 2005. The series – which is produced for TNT by The Shephard/Robin Company, in association with Warner Bros. Television – was created by Duff, who serves as executive producer with Greer Shephard, Michael M. Robin, Rick Wallace and Sedgwick. In its seventh and final season in 2011, THE CLOSER will reach its 100th episode. Production of the 15-episode season will start in spring 2011.
“Kyra Sedgwick has distinguished herself not only as an extraordinary actress, but as a remarkable set leader and presence on THE CLOSER,” said Peter Roth, president of Warner Bros. Television. “The series has literally changed the face and course of both TNT and Warner Bros. Television, and we will always be grateful for all that she has contributed toward that success.”
THE CLOSER is currently in the midst of concluding its sixth season. This past summer, the series was the foundation of TNT’s strong Monday night lineup, which featured the introduction of the new hit series Rizzoli & Isles.
THE CLOSER and Rizzoli & Isles currently rank as basic cable’s top two series of all time. In 2010, both series averaged more than 8 million viewers, marking a first for a basic cable network. THE CLOSER also kept up the pace by growing its deliveries compared to season five.

I didn't care for Kyra Sedgewick in the part of The Closer. She just didn't fit the character.

The Good Guys...What a terrible show. I never understood how it made it on the air.

Still, CBS’ new comedy that stars William Shatner has been able to dominate at 8:30 p.m. because it airs opposite a repeat of Greys Anatomy and 30 Rock, which has never been able to muster a big following.
the show's writing is far too clever (and tinged with nerd-pop) for most people. anyone else catch the microwave model number a few weeks back?

Which was?

Wow. That was pretty obscure. I had to google it.

btw SpoilerTV is claiming a "usually reliable source" informed them Fringe has been renewed and the announcement will come soon.
Other places are saying that's highly unlikely since the show is moving to Friday and last year it wasn't renewed to the end of the season.

That the problem I think 30 Rock has. A LOT of its jokes are pop-culture jokes that only are going to be caught by those 30-20 year olds entertainment (TV, movie etc)( junkies. The rest is lost on the general population who revert to watching crap on CBS.

Hmm, I used to love 30 rock, but I pretty much stopped after season 3. It got too wacky for me.

i missed that, but it is very dependent on those references. You don't really need nerd-pop for Baldwin's character, though you do need a broad American pop and political grounding.

He's the show, anyway. If something happens to him, that show is dead.

It's always been WACKY -- name one delicately drawn, down to earth character on that show, ever.

It it wasn't too wacky for you the first three seasons it couldn't possibly have gotten too wacky for you now.

Im surprised The Closer has lasted this long. I've watched parts of it but I just can't get in to it. Too dull for me and I can't stand Kyra's character.

Perhaps the better statement was that I just got tired of it.

I dunno, it just lost something to me. I still watch it from time to time, but it just doesn't hook me any more. :\

the main character came across as an insufferable bitch. I couldn't get into it either.

Fox is not officially confirming yet but it is as final as it gets: The Good Guys won't be returning for a second season. Fox originally picked up Matt Nix's cop dramedy straight-to-series for a summer run. In May, before the show had premiered, the network ordered additional episodes and put it on the fall schedule to air on Fridays. But, despite getting a preview run behind American Idol, the series starring Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks never gained traction and performed underwhelmingly for its entire 20-episode run.
