This. As an advertiser I dont give a fuck that 2 million people downloaded House last week.

This is why these viewers need to be counted and product placement become more of an advertising model instead of the traditional ad-break with 30 second promos

And product placement fees are STILL going to be based on ratings because you can't count illegal downloads.

but at the same time the advertisers don't give a shit about those non-young viewers which is why you see several programs getting axed that have decent strong overall numbers but weak in the recently prepubescent.

Is that why I feel TV is getting dumber and dumber?

I claim license to express severe thoughts against tv because I was raised with NO tv (ABSOLUTELY none). Whenever I see it on I literally almost feel physically sick. In friends omes where they play it constantly in the background, I almost can't stand to be there, fight impulse to leave.

In recent years I've watched some tele shows over the computer. Only a small few.

Hmm interesting that you don't see that you're actually the equally as awkward guy on the opposite side of the spectrum. Yes, not all programs on TV are great, but television on its own is simply a medium. To consider it all bad when there's plenty of educational or edu-tainment programs available is just a bit off.

Also, noise produced from a TV can eventually become normal enough of an occurrence to be considered white noise. Some people are just simply that used to it.

Partly it's programming on the tv, but it's much more because of the noxious vibe of the tv, which is thought up and decided by brain dead idiots in a narrow self-serving community of producers.

Wanna get into synch with their deadbrained-ness? Just tune into your favorite tv shit and vibrate with the mentality they're pumping forth, just about same as standing in a sewer shower!

YES that dumbs YOU down, WAY down! But they show lots of pretty colors, sounds, chicks, motion. Gotta have it!

Partly, the people who decide your programming are less intelligent than average persons to begin with, and partly it's the vibrations flowing out of the physical tv and over your hypnotically-tranced (and fantastically sensitive) brain, and then your mind. That tv-drone vibe goes deep into you, and you readily accept into your mind whatwhatever they serve up without judiciousness.

Virtually ALL of it is CRAP!
Virtually ALL of it influences you toward the negative.

another good reason I should leave a TV on 24/7

with ratings across to board going to shit with the traditional accounting method, unless something new becomes stellar it's about as likely to be canned for something else to get that shot.

i doubt changing the rating method to take into accnt online viewing is gonna change much

99% of TV is total shit and people don't watch it - that's the issue that needs fixing. Seriously i haven't watched anything regularly other then sports on network TV since Seinfeld went off the air

I just read that Traffic Light was cancelled. I really liked that one.

Not that I liked that show, but how many times was it shown before they cancelled it?

Unless you come out of the gate with a top ten ratings seems like you have little chance to make it more than a year.

Hell Cheers was not even in the top 50 shows its first year, let alone not even top 30 its 2nd. Guess they should have cancelled it.

Then MASH, another show that could not break into the top 30 its first year and that was when there were only 3 channels.

This is a big issue IMO there have been several good shows that get the ax before they have a chance to breath. They are being replaced by cheaper crap that sucks on pretty much every level (reality tv stuff) because it is cheaper. We have so many shows that are given half seasons and unpredictable air times and then seeing them get cut because nobody watches them.

Heck, love it or hate it, Family guy is a good example of network execs screwing over a show that has the ability to become popular.

I agree. Plus, midseason show never stand a chance. It seems like they are over before they start. How many midseason shows actually make it?

HA another one...

Seinfeld did not even break the top 40 its first 2 years. The 3rd year it only hit 25.

NCIS has alwasy been a 20ish show but CBS never really pulled for them. I loved it from season 1 up and thought it was better than its ratings let alone no major support it seemed. Now its a top 5 show after CBS put some money into it. Mind you that took 4 years.

Fox is the latest broadcast network to unveil its official 2011-12 schedule, and the key word is stability. Save for a few minor tweaks — most notably House’s move to 9 pm on Mondays to make way for Steve Spielberg’s dinosaur epic Terra Nova — the network’s lineup remains virtually unchanged.

Buried in Fox’s announcement is the news that after 23 years, America’s Most Wanted will morph from a weekly series into quarterly specials — which is a fancy way of saying it’s been canceled. “We have not made money on the show in quite a while,” said Fox president Kevin Reilly. “It was economically getting to the place where it was not particularly viable, but we wanted to keep the franchise alive. John Walsh is having a number of conversations with [parent company News Corp. about] where that series can continue… I would not be surprised if you see the show pop up somewhere else.”

I just read that Traffic Light was cancelled. I really liked that one.

It had its moments, the girls got on my nerves though. And that one episode with the couple that went insane because of that involuntary erection was just so ridiculous. I think Better With You had a better combination that Traffic Light was going for, of course that got cancelled too. Don't understand how Happy Endings made it either, it only had like 3 episodes so far.

!!!

UPDATE 2:15 PM: TOLDJA! Fox just announced the deal at its upfront this afternoon. Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said production on the animated series will start immediately for a 2013 premiere. He hinted that the deal for the show closed just hours before the presentation today -- just like i told you. In a video, MacFarlane shed some light on his plans for the remake: The characters will look the same but he'll introduce new technology, like "What is the animal version of an iPad?” He said that one of the first things he ever drew as a child was characters from the classic series.

EXCLUSIVE: Seth MacFarlane is one of the busiest creatives in show business -- and he just got a lot busier. I've just learned that he's finally realized one of his life's ambitions: to reboot The Flintstones

Thats going to be either crazy awesome or crazy bad. I see little chance for any thing else but a extreme of its sucess or lack of.

Hmmm. Fred flintstone, the idiot, Wilma the annoying wife, Dino the faithful pet, pebbles the infant genius.. I don't know, the standard flintstones doesn't have a place for Chris or Meg altermatives. This might really be a stretch for him.
