2010 audi a4 or a5?

allright so i'm looking to buy a new car.

I've test driven these 2, and have settled on something with an automatic , 2.0T engine and quattro, but i've been waffling back and forth between the coupe or sedan. I wont be getting the sports package and plan to get upgraded rims on the A4 (the A5 has 18s standard).

Anyhow, at first glance my impulse gut feeling is the A5 is hotter so buy it, even though it is much less practical and costs about 11% more after all is said and done comparably equipped.

The geek in me knows that the A4 with every single option box ticked off including the nvidia 3d nav system , and backup cameras, super upgraded audio system for a few hundred less than the A5 with out the stuff . Its a real hard decision for me, so which would you get if you were me. I don't really want to spend more than the A5 costs without all those options so i'm not considering an A5 with all that stuff added. Or I could just keep the extra money which also works.

Which would you vote for?

yeah i think thats really the only reason i'm considering it and its a considerable plus since, its basically equal or worse in every other way

I'd wait for it and go for the car you REALLY want.

If you really want the A4 loaded then go for it.

i'm not sure what the $$$$ comes out to, but i know you can option an A4 to near-S4 prices.

if the price is close enough, definitely check out the S4. the new supercharged V6 is unbelievable.

otherwise, i vote A5. soooo sexy.

I was just checking out Audi's website. I can't believe the way they structured the options on the 2010 A4. You can't even get an auto dimming rear view mirror unless you go with the top of the line Prestige model! It's like a $200 option on most basic cars and not even offered on the Premium Plus package as an option.
I also see they dropped the auto dimming outside mirrors. WTF is with that? That is the one and only thing I miss going from a Mercedes to a Honda. I won't get another car without it.

I say save some more money and wait until you can put some options on the A5 and get that. Much less A5's on the road than A4's.

yeah the options packages are not great... prestige has nav now too so its even more money than before. i've never had auto dimming side mirrors, at least the rear view is auto dimming on the lower models.

that said, i owned a coupe before (a g35 coupe) and one of the bigger reasons I havent just bought an A5 already is that when I had that coupe I did not like that some things on it were annoying (like getting people into it, or putting a microwave box into it , which i remember was quite hard). the A5 isn't quite as bad about it though, and good point that no one has one so its more exclusive..

According to audiusa.com, the Premium and Premium Plus models do *not* have the auto dimming rear view mirror even as an option. Only the Prestige has it. This is a change from the 2009 MY.

That said, the inside auto dimming mirror isn't a huge loss if you don't get the prestige.. it's simple to flip it yourself at night. But auto dimming outside mirrors are wonderful. You have to step up to the A6 to get them.

for the first time in about 10 years the a4 actually looks good. not quite as good as the a5, but still good.

from a money standpoint the a4 will probably be easier to sell because it has 4 doors, and it'll cost less up front.

i happen to hate dimmed mirrors. i think i've flipped that lever about 10 times ever, and probably only when a truck was right behind me.

wow that is pretty absurd.

i don tthink its worth getting the $5000 prestige just to get that though, you can buy an oem mirror for like $200 for at least the rear view, i know a guy with a mercedes that did this instead of buying a "package". granted this is stupid, but im still going to get it, i can push a button to dim the mirror. wouldnt even be a problem if people didnt drive SUVs

I vote A4 with the toys. Why not get the sport package if you want to add wheels anyways? $1500 for 18", sport suspension, and sport seats seems to be a pretty good deal.

I love my A4, I wish I could have gotten every tech option under the sun...next time I will.

The A5 is nice, but i'd rather have all the tech toys. Get some RS5 rims

i never said anything in particular about auto dimming mirrors, i said dimmed mirrors. the one auto dimming mirror i use somewhat regularly seems to dim with just regular freeway traffic behind it. maybe it's just a bad design. i've never found the on button, then again i haven't looked real hard.

I think the A5 is one of the only cars short of 200k that makes you stop and look at it whenever you see one. There's a black S5 in my work lot, I gawk at it everyday when I pass by

It's a good looking car but it's not that good looking. While I think it is a good looking car, I think the shape is a bit on the generic side.
