So my current car, Infiniti g37s coupe, has 20k miles on it and is 1 year old. I am in need of more space in a car and decided to look for what I think would be an upgrade. I owe $23k on it and it's trade in value is roughly $27k. The Infiniti has 330 bhp while the 535i has 300bhp. The ride is a lot smoother on the BMW and has more space. The fuel economy is better on the 535i. I would just like your opinion on what courses of action I should take. The 535i is listed for 58k sticker price but I can get it down to 54 or 52. Your opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am also looking to finance.

"please move to appropriate forum.". Thanks.

I am not sure how you can get it down to $52k, the spread between invoice and MSRP is only $3k. Plus, it is a recently redesigned model, you will most likely only get $1500 off.

I am also not sure what you are looking for? A recommendation of the car or whether you should go ahead with the decision?

I can get it down due to a corporate agreement. BMW is one of my companies' clients. I am looking to go from a coupe to sedan. Also looking for connectivity via Bluetooth for my iPhone, nav system with traffic, sat radio same amenities that the g37 s has except I can do away with the rough feel of a sports suspension. Just wanted to know your opinions on the 535i and if it's worth trading in the G37 for one.

Or do you have other substitutes you think are worth looking at?

I rather drive the 2012 A6.

The new 5 series has lost the "sporty" feel from its predecessors.

Fwiw, the BMW *35i are underrated, power wise, so that 330 vs. 300hp power figure is so close as to be irrelevant. It doesn't sound like you're the type to keep cars for very long, if you want it go for it.

You might find more value in the Lexus GS460 though, if you're looking for a luxury large midsize cruiser that's still RWD. Older design, but super bulletproof compared to ze germans.

Hahaha true.

OP was talking about sport suspension being harsh, wanting a better ride though. For comfy luxo-cruisers Lexus is really hard to beat. Boring but good.

Well I drive a 335i so I'd say yeah going from G37 to 535i is definitely worth it.

But I gotta say my decision isn't based on specs, connectivity, navigation...etc, it purely personal preference. I just like the look, the handling and the power of 335 better than any other car. So instead of asking what others might think, what matters is what do you think, and if you like 535i enough to justify the extra buck.

Thanks for your input guys. While test driving the 535i I also noticed that it had more of a pick up on the lower end in sports mode than the G37S. Same for the 3 series. What really stood out though was the efficient dynamics system and the 29MPG on the 535i. I test drove the M37 and G37x sedans to see if maybe I wanted to stay with the same company but the ride experience just wasn't the same. Also the peace of mind when it comes to maintenance with BMW, it's literally just drive in it and they take care of the rest without any extras coming out of your pocket for 4 years. Now I have not test driven the Lexus or the Audi so before I start passing judgement on those two I'll go ahead and drive them around a bit.

Please continue to share if you have any more insights. Thanks again.

You might want to wait on and check out the new A6 before buying a 5 Series...

The 535 is definitely more "luxury" now than ever from all of the reviews (have not driven one yet). One thing to look out for is that the throttle response has been panned by many auto journalists...you may want to pay attention to that while driving.

The engine should be fantastic (it will probably feel "stronger" around town with more torque down low...although the VQ was never a slouch). You will probably get better gas mileage and the tech on the car should be fantastic. You may end up missing the sportiness of your G37 though...from all the reviews, it seems like the 5 series is headed more in the "land yacht" direction.

If money wasn't a concern, I'd take the F10 535 in a heartbeat.

If it is, stick with what you got. The 1 year old G37 has a $27k trade in value? Jeesus, if you MUST buy a new car, sell that privately rather than trading it in.

Ok a few things:

1. Trade - in value for my G37S is now $34,000.00. Dealer forgot I had a Type S not the stock G37.

2. Test Drove the Audi A6, not a bad ride. Smooth and has some nice features; however, the BMW still has the better pcik up/ acceleration feel.

3. Test Drove the Lexus GS 460. For some reason it felt like driving a boat and it just wanted to put me to sleep. Lol.

4. Lease vs. Finance: Several dealers are telling me that's the best way to go.

As always your input is greatky appreciated.

Thanks.

The 2012 A6 is brand new and is not at dealers yet...so you were driving last generations A6 which, while good, is not the big step that the newest model is. Worth reading the Insideline article mentioned above.

If you will likely want a new car in the next few years, leasing will certainly be your better option if you can work a good deal on the lease.

You would still do better selling the G37 yourself...although a lot of people would rather just not deal with the hassle and decide to trade it in.
