Isn't the track supposed to be completed in June? Damn thats cutting it close.

Not much different than the Korean GP last year. I think the track had only had a couple weeks of time before completion to race day. They cut it close as well.

http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2011/06/03/fia-postpone-2013-f1-engine-rules/

The FIA may delay the introduce of four-cylinder 1.6-litre engines in F1, the World Motor Sport Council confirmed today.

A statement issued by the FIA said: “In consultation with the main stakeholders, and following the outcome of this consultation, a fax vote by the WMSC could be considered by 30 June latest to redefine the implementation date of these technical regulations”.

The WMSC confirmed the planned rules changes for 2013 included the new engines, with “high pressure gasoline injection up to 500 bar with a maximum of 12,000 rpm, with extensive energy management and energy recovery systems (now known as ERS)”.

It also promised revised aerodynamic rules “based on 2011 rules, with modifications in order to improve the aerodynamic efficiency: together with the power train rules, this will enable a 35% reduction in fuel consumption”.
The heights of the cars’ noses will be altered for safety purposes and the number of transmission units teams may used will be further reduced to cut costs.

The minimum weight of the cars will be increased from 640kg to 660kg

Hmm. So we're going to see 1.6 ltr inline-4 normally aspirated engines in F1 in 2013?

Would be interesting to see what kind of power output they'd be able to get without forced induction. To show where roadcars could truly go (provided a 1000 mile engine life was sufficient )

I'll be in India in Dec.. and in the US in June.. Woot.

I am not sure about making it to a GP in India.. I don't know anyone who lives in Delhi, but I know a bunch of people from Houston. :awe:

the plan was to have forced induction and thermal energy recovery, possibly through separate electrical devices (fan on the front, generator on the back). since the fia is against the teams using exhaust to enhance downforce, they are probably looking into how far it could be restricted with the proposed devices.

So it's going to be just like the now defunct Champ Car series?

Just go to 4 speed autos and 1.6L diesels. That ought to be cheap and safe...

Yeah I'm going to India in Dec too, but it's going to be near the end. AT garage meetup in Austin, and I can volunteer my driveway for a meetup in Houston then a short xx mph blast to Austin.

Le Mans will be over long before the F1 race begins. They'll interupt coverage for qualifying.

Should be a good track for DRS.

Montreal GP is still being broadcast on Fox. 12pm central. Fox does 4 or 5 GPs during the summer instead of speed.

That blows. I want to see the race live god dammit!!!

I hope they're using the Speed crew at least and not cutting out the driver interviews or the pre-race show at least?
