I'm looking forward to X rebirth in 2012, and possibly Diablo 3.

Haven't played Much from 2011. When it comes to FPS I pretty much only like "Arena" style shooters like Quake, Quake 2, Half Life, Half Life 2, etc ... BF3 and COD don't interest me. Rage piqued my interests, but after many mediocre reviews, I figure I'll pick it up for $15 on sale some time next year.
Skyrim interests me, but I have been busy and haven't downloaded a copy from steam yet, maybe when it's on sale I'll pick it up, by then there should hopefully be a nice selection of mods available as well...

That said, I've been having lots of fun with Minecrack.

Yeah I preordered BF3 but still have yet to play it. I bought Bad Company 2 in May and still play it. I got everything unlocked and do real well in it so I'm hesitant to start BF3.

Nevermind the games released in 2010 or before that I bought this year but have yet to play. Or the games I bought in 2007 that are good but still have yet to play much or any at all, like Portal and HL2 Ep2.

In the last 3-4 months I've finished the following.

Rage
Battlefield 3 (still going on MP tho)
Gears of War 3
Uncharted 3
Skyrim (not really done, but did main story and 3 factions as well not including side questing. Put in over 60 hours)

I'm working on Assassin's Creed Revelations and Zelda Skyward Sword (admittedly put down AC to do Zelda lol).

There is a lot to play but I focus on one before I swap to another.

edit: Does anyone know what happened to Half Life 2 Episodes?

'98-00 was the holy trinity as far as PC gaming years have gone, its been hit or miss since then. Mostly miss recently but '11 is a nice step in the right direction.

I bought more games than I can play. I'll probably end up buying more games that I can play soon enough.

I did the opposite this year, purchased a lot of new hardware for my new PC upgrade, now I can concentrate on buying and playing PC games .

This was the year I was supposed to start working away my Steam backlog, but instead I just added to the ever increasing pile. Not to mention BF3 and Skyrim which have completely consumed my free time ever since their release. I completely agree with the OP; there have been just too many good games this year (first world problem I know), for it to even be possible to play them all. I was tempted to pick up Rage, Dead Island, Deus Ex, and Batman during the black Friday/cyber onday deals, but I couldn't justify it. No way I will even have time to play them before the end of the year.

I did both. Near the beginning of the year I dropped $1500 on an entire new build, and I've spent god knows how much since then on games I missed, games on sale, and brand new games I want to play NOW!

And not a single good Space RPG

I just watch all the episodes of Firefly again, oh how much I would love a game based on this show...

You start off with some old hulk, no guns, limited cargo space and you look to hire crew members who have various skills which you can develop/level up as you play. You travel from port to port seeking jobs which can vary from simple trades/smuggling ops to scrap jobs and pirating.

Don't forget Serious Sam 3, which I've spent 23 hours playing in the last week. For me, that's a hell of a lot of time.

I'm finally starting to realize that I'll never be able to play all of the good games to completion. I feel a little like Alexander the Great.

Two Worlds 2 is a perfect example. I bought it for around $14, played it for a few hours that same night, went back to it two or three times and haven't touched it since. It's a really fun game that looks incredible on three screens. The gameplay is right up my alley - a huge open world to explore, with fun combat options. And yet my gaming ADD prevents me from getting immersed in it.

It's definitly time to scale back the buying for me.

2011 has been ok I suppose. The only really great titles for me this year though has been The Witcher 2 and Deus Ex:HR. LOTR War in the North could take the crown for MP if it wasn't so ridiculously buggy.

For 2012 I'm putting my faith in ME3 - not sure what else to expect that'll have a chance of being epic. Borderlands 2 maybe - but that's a big maybe - they'll need to bring something new to the table which might prove hard.

I'm in the same boat, BF3 and Skyrim are basically all I'm interested in playing and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Yet, my Steam backlog continues to grow, unfortunately... some 2011 games I own but have never played include -

Assassins Creed Brotherhood
Batman Arkham City
Dead Space 2
Deus Ex: HR and The Missing Link
NBA 2K12
Red Orchestra 2
Saints Row The Third
NFS Shift 2 Unleashed
Total War: Shogun 2
Two Worlds II

Wow...and here I was thinking it has been a pretty cr@p year for SP FPS.

Expand your horizons man. Gaming is much more entertaining when you're not focused on a single genre. Next year should have the new Bioshock out though which looks fantastic.

My current "Play list" includes

Batman :AC
Skyrim
Dark Souls
Crysis 2
Assassin's Creed: R
Witcher 2

And I have zero chance of getting through any/all of them before next year when Amalur and D3 come out.

You have played Mass Effect, right? It might not be quite as open/sandbox like as what you're describing, but other than that it's pretty much exactly what you're describing.

Sounds like the (very) old Traveler game. Or maybe Pivateer? or am I thinking about a different game?
