I've read somewhere that a few 2011 Elantra's have automatic transmission problems? Anyone else read that because I am thinking about getting one.
Have not come upon that information yet. The previous 5 years received top grades from CR on reliability. 04 was middle of road and 01-03 were sh*t-shock poor. Although warranty work is a pain it's got a great warranty.
I went to a Hyundai dealership yesterday intending to drive one of these but I checked out the Sonata instead. I am looking to lease and a Sonata is $30/month more plus about $20/month more in gas, so $50 total, but actually cheaper to insure for me (I checked) by a few bucks, so the Sonata is all out $45/month more expensive. The Elantra does seem decent, looks nice, but I really was impressed with the Sonata. It is the fastest car I've driven with a 4 cylinder and it and the Elantra do have USB, blue tooth, etc.
About to pull the trigger on one of these or an Altima. Truth is I can get an Altima for the same price as an Elantra (maybe even a touch less, and I have the quotes from dealerships on this) and am having a difficult time telling myself why I'd get a Hyundai Elantra over a Nissan Altima, even if the Altima is getting a bit stale in appearance, it has pretty good mileage, large, a better name. That said, the resale on the Elantra in particular is slated to be very high.
Insurance aside a V6 Altima can be had now for a similar lease price to a Sonata if not a touch cheaper, once again challenging the sense of the Hyundai. No doubt, it is a nice vehicle, but Nissan's lease rates appear now to be the best of brands I'd actually consider.
In any case Hyundai used to be a joke to me, but no longer. Crash test on the elantra was pretty good. The Sonata was exemplary, it seems that of 2011 only it and the BMW 5 series shared the very top grades from NHTSA.
