Great car! I've been looking into them for over a month now. The GLS is the only model offering a manual trans but I'm hearing that the auto actually shifts better and gets the same mileage. I really do like the styling change (mini Sonata) and the interior. I was pricing the manual GLS, but since it's pretty hard to get right now plus the fact that there is very little discount on any Elantra I'm now considering the Limited.

Until a few more years have passed and Hyundai has proved that they can build cars that random things won't start falling off of after 10 years of regular usage, I will not even consider a Hyundai. I know numerous people that treat their cars with respect, the engine is still going great, but random things on the exterior have just plain gone to hell. They must not have salt on their roads in South Korea.

Checked it out. Looks really good in Radiant Silver/Black/White. As for the car, I can say that initially I was aiming to get one, but decided to get a 2011 Sonata instead. The fit and finish seems not up to par as the Sonata. I would have gotten one but there isn't much room for negotiating at the moment since they're such a hot seller.

My friend bought one a month ago, I haven't driven it but the front and rear seats are pretty spacious. Seats feel good, interior isn't too bad considering the segment and price. Engine and transmission are really smooth, nice ride. I believe he has the GLS + Popular

I'm tempted. I've got a 2009 Elantra I bought during CFC and love it. It's ugly as hell but has been utterly reliable and gets decent mileage. i'm $4k to the good on the loan and the looks and gas mileage has me wanting to trade bad but I'm trying to resist. I need to get out of a car loan for a while.

May check out this week. All rests on dealer incentives. Apparently the 2012 are very close to being released so the 2011 may be a good pick. These are rated at 29/40 mileage, which is exemplary. Also, though they compete in the compact market the EPA actually designates them a mid-size. They have a lot of room and feature, airbags, stability control, excellent warranty, etc.

Consumer Reports actually rates the 2011 Elantra above all other small sedans on its recommended list. CR expects similar reliability to last gen which according to CR at least for the last 3-4 years of Elantra was I think well above average.

I'm still not sure why the Kia Forte seems to get so much worse mileage than this, though.

We really liked our test drive of a GLS. Elantra is a light car - like 2800lbs. Has a great interior with lots of pockets, cubbies, cup holders. Big trunk and lots of passenger room.

Its a bit over stylized on the exterior as well.

With compacts now neing premium cars with premium pricing $25K loaded, the Elantra is still cheaper than the rest. not sporty - but a great daily driver. Amazing how far along the compacts have come.

We also test drive a 2011 Civic which felt beyond dated after driving the Cruze & Elantra.

My in-laws have an Elantra from the early 90's. Of course they live in SoCal, so no salt. Maybe that's key for longevity with cars?

I bought a indigo blue limited in january. I average about 30mpg with it, my commute takes me from 3200' up to 3700' and then to 1000' with an average speed of 58mph. If your primary concern is mileage I would try to rent one to see how it does on your commute (wish I had). I also have a 2005 elantra with 185k miles that gets 29mpg with the same commute. The car handles better than my 05 on flat surfaces, but on potholes or uneven pavement you need to drive with both hands on the steering wheel. It's spacious inside and looks upscale. I've put about 11k miles on it.

I've read somewhere that a few 2011 Elantra's have automatic transmission problems? Anyone else read that because I am thinking about getting one.

<-- In South Korea

My wife wants to trade in her 2000 Elantra (called Avante in Korea), but I can't get past the styling on the new model. The new Sonata is ugly enough, they didn't need to make a mini of clone it.

Have not come upon that information yet. The previous 5 years received top grades from CR on reliability. 04 was middle of road and 01-03 were sh*t-shock poor. Although warranty work is a pain it's got a great warranty.

I went to a Hyundai dealership yesterday intending to drive one of these but I checked out the Sonata instead. I am looking to lease and a Sonata is $30/month more plus about $20/month more in gas, so $50 total, but actually cheaper to insure for me (I checked) by a few bucks, so the Sonata is all out $45/month more expensive. The Elantra does seem decent, looks nice, but I really was impressed with the Sonata. It is the fastest car I've driven with a 4 cylinder and it and the Elantra do have USB, blue tooth, etc.

About to pull the trigger on one of these or an Altima. Truth is I can get an Altima for the same price as an Elantra (maybe even a touch less, and I have the quotes from dealerships on this) and am having a difficult time telling myself why I'd get a Hyundai Elantra over a Nissan Altima, even if the Altima is getting a bit stale in appearance, it has pretty good mileage, large, a better name. That said, the resale on the Elantra in particular is slated to be very high.

Insurance aside a V6 Altima can be had now for a similar lease price to a Sonata if not a touch cheaper, once again challenging the sense of the Hyundai. No doubt, it is a nice vehicle, but Nissan's lease rates appear now to be the best of brands I'd actually consider.

In any case Hyundai used to be a joke to me, but no longer. Crash test on the elantra was pretty good. The Sonata was exemplary, it seems that of 2011 only it and the BMW 5 series shared the very top grades from NHTSA.

The rental company I work for just bought a few. I haven't had a chance to drive one yet. I'll report back when I do.
