Although improved over the fourth generation, the Mark 5 still takes over 42 hours to assemble at the factory in Mexico.[66] Part of this disparity is blamed on the switch to the more complex independent rear suspension. Volkswagen has publicly stated its discontent over the excessive assembly time, and pledged to streamline manufacturing in the next generation of A platform cars.[110] In the interim, Volkswagen de México is making a concerted effort to further increase productivity at the plant, by consulting outside experts from Toyota and other Japanese companies.[75] By implementing many lean manufacturing principles and techniques, a goal has been set to increase productivity levels at the factory by 30% or more in the coming years.

The sixth generation Volkswagen Jetta has been designed under the codename NCS (New Compact Sedan), with strict cost-cutting measures to make the vehicle more competitive in the North American market with the likes of the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. However, the vehicle will also be sold in the Russian, Indian, and Chinese markets. The sixth generation vehicle will no longer be a "Golf with a trunk", which was the case with the fifth generation Jetta. Production of the vehicle has been confirmed for Volkswagen's Puebla, Mexico production facility. The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta will debut in 2010.[113][114]

still looks like a golf with a trunk..

Lol yeah it does. The interior is supposed to be different from the golf from what I hear. Anyone think the back looks like an A4?

Looks like the current model with a mild face lift. Tail lamps are BMW'ish.

It looks like a Honda Civic family had a baby with a Toyota Corolla and then that kid married a three series BMW or better yet, a 1 series. D:

It resembles a Civic in it's a body size, the rear resembles a BMW (imagine it with that bit of upper lip on the top of the trunk and widen out the side a tad, with obviously better rims), and the whole thing screams "corolla".

Sad, I liked older model Jettas.

they say redesigned from top to bottom but I don't think it's much more than a facelift.

They also say may be built in their new plant in Tennessee

googling their "new mid size sedan" you find a pic of this..

Here is an exclusive rendering of what Volkswagen’s NMS (New Midsized Sedan) may look like. This car will likely be the 2010 replacement for the current Passat. As reported earlier, VW is looking to make this new car for the U.S. and China markets only. The parts for the U.S. car may be made in China and assembled at VW’s new facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Passat will continue in the rest of the world, but in a different, possibly smaller form.
Volkswagen is looking to split the Passat production versions to better serve different regions of the world. This is in a similar fashion to how Honda makes two separate Accords (the European version of the Accord is a smaller car and is sold in the U.S. as the Acura TSX.)

yeah, it still seems like a VW corolla to me too. An updated, better looking VW corolla, but a VW corolla nonetheless

The headlights definitely bare some resemblance to the A4...but not seeing any resemblance past that...not that I think resembling the A4 would be a bad thing since I'm a fan.

I am interested to see how VW cars that have been "simplified" for the American market end up stacking up against their "European" vehicles.

So wait... wasn't the Jetta one of hte most unreliable VW cars out there? Does this mean things will improve? Sigh I really want a GTI, but I have people telling me left and right about maintenance. That's something I really don't want to deal with. The first 36k might be fine, but after that I really don't know.

i'm pretty sure the consensus is the MK5 is a really great car (safety, reliability, interior, performance)

The car can probably reach 100k without any major issues. 5-cylinder 2.5 is solid and the Japanese DSG will probably last forever.

No idea about the GTI but i imagine it could probably outlast an Si or come close
