2011 Steam Holiday Sale DEAD!

Hmm this is the first day that anything has caught my eye. Thinking about picking up Dirt 3 for $17 and Rage for $15. From Dust looks interesting as well, but I think I will wait for the $5 sale.

I'm considering Dirt 3 as the game is fun on my PS3, but the loading times are atrocious. Rage might also be a decent purchase, but I've heard so many negative things about the game. :\

Saints Row 3 is an awesome game, but it's still new, and hence still kind of expensive. I can understand not wanting to buy it.

As MGGP said, it's considerably cheaper at GMG (50% off the $40 price using the code FIFTY-SAINT-XMASS). Note that the code expires 12/26, so you have some time to decide.

Thanks for the info. Just got it for $20. They give you a key that you can activate on Steam. I'm downloading via steam right now.

Just downloaded the Audiosurf demo. Tried it out. Meh. That was the only thing that looked interesting to me today.

IMO, the 1st day was the big day for this sale. Do they do this on purpose? I figure that the longer the sale goes the more people become aware of it and start watching daily. If there are games they don't want to sell a lot of discounted copies of, the first day would be the day to post them.

This is my first year paying attention to this sale, do the sales get worse as the week progresses (based on past years)? And what is the comment about the last day that the OP mentioned? Is there a big sale at the end?

Steam does not have to have a holiday sale. They have sales because they want people to come and buy their products, to install steam, and become a regular customer. It makes no sense for them to have a sale hoping not many people notice it.

Have only played the original Dirt, but have played Grid. The Dirt series is very different than Grid, but the Dirt series is very good. If you like racing, Dirt will be good. It's a little more realistic in comparison to Grid, but still basically an arcade type game.

I loved Dirt 2.

I liked Dirt 3.

I would rather pay the $10 for Dirt 2 than the $17 for Dirt 3.

Graphically, IMO, there's nothing between them.


The "Gymkhana" (sp) events are what wrecked Dirt 3 for me; Dirt 2 has more of the 'conventional' types of rally races.

Thats exactly why i didnt jump on it. its got to suck for a id game to drop that fast. well that and after i watched a buddy play it it looks like its got textures from HL one when you look at anything close up. I dont understand how it can look like such a good graphics game when running around outside but when you look at anything up close it looks like they are using minecraft textures.

I haven't noticed the sales getting progressively worse in this or any other Steam sale event (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Summer, etc...). People are always complaining that overall the current event is worse than previous events, but that's largely because its mostly the same games being discounted and they already bought the ones they wanted.

The suggestion in the original post is to wait until the last day to buy a game unless it's one of the daily deals. Games that are part of the daily deals are given even bigger discounts than they have during the rest of the event. If you were to buy a game that's on sale today for 33% off, but not part of today's daily deals then you might end up finding it on sale for 66% off later in the event.

On the last day some of the most popular daily deals are repeated. The discounts are exactly the same as they were when they were a daily deal before, so no there's no big sale at the end. It does give you an opportunity to pick up some of the deals if you missed them the first time, but there's no reason to wait for the last day if the game you want is a daily deal today.
