I don't understand why people are surprised that Obama might have a landslide victory. Haven't the stats and intrade been saying this for months? Intrade's chart shows that Romney was never projected to win, and it goes all the way back to the beginning of the year.

To be fair, I think 2000/2004 led to a kneejerk that all national races are toss-ups. The more we see that aren't I think the more acceptable it will become to call a leader

Here's my take now matter what happens.
The small population red states have gotten very very red. I see this as a result of the consolidation in media. When all you get are Fox News and a local newspaper that's Republican you don't get anything but the distorted Republican reality.

On the other hand, states like Virginia and North Carolina are turning blue faster than some rust belt and Great Lakes states are turning red.

Despite incredibly strong moves to suppress the votes in Florida and Ohio the Dems are still at least competitive on a national level and Florida is about to turn true blue on a local level. By 2016 Florida and Ohio will be blue states and Virginia and North Carolina toss ups.

Republicans have alienated many voters with their far right agenda and have motivated Dems to vote in much higher numbers.
