Not always a bad thing. Sometimes it's good if you can get in early when a game is marked too low. For example, Terraria at $2.50? when it was still relatively new.
It's not just today, Steam has trouble every single seasonal sale. There's always a couple instances where the front page price doesn't match the checkout price, or the initial discount gets changed mid-day for some reason. It's bit a couple of us who get into "buy mode" and just fly through the confirmation dialog. Yeah it should be read more clearly but you still get the feeling of bait and switch if it happens to you. There was one sale last year where they had at least one pricing error every day. Some were just quick changes once they went live but not all.
Boxed retail versions of MW3 will activate on Steam because it's a Steamworks game. You must link it to a Steam account regardless of where you buy it. FEAR, on the other hand, doesn't work this way; if you want it on Steam, then you have to buy it directly through the Steam store. That article you linked doesn't really apply.

However, upon further research, both FEAR 2 and FEAR 3 activate on Steam. But the original doesn't.

Today, I bought Age of Empires III package. Steam oddly popped up asking me to confirm 'payment method' but defaulted to the correct card. I clicked purchase.
Steam then popped up, 'your card has been declined. After you you have corrected this, try the purchase again.'
I figured the card company had gotten suspicious of all the Steam sale purchases and called them. They said 'yes, we see the purchase, it was approved.'
So, I said, 'Steam was paid the money?' Yes, they confirmed.
Checked Steam again, my purchase history - nothing. No game, no record.
I have a ticket open, but just sharing the story.
Wondering if I should get rage. I like the concept, just heard so many iffy things about it. Wouldn't mind a wasteland shooter at the moment though. :hmm:

What is a Steam Wallet? Is it simply money you deposit so you can use it to spend on Steam Games? What is the point of that?

I personally liked rage a whole lot. and i went into it with pretty low expectations.
all the mini games are fun, the controls are good, and the art/character design is pretty amazing imo.
you do need to do some fiddling to minimize the texture pop-in... but that's about the only negative in my book.
of course i'm sure 20 dudes are gonna rage on me (HA) about the textures looking terrible up close, but i didn't stop killing/racing long enough to really notice.
