I was so excited to be done with purchasing on steam, since I thought I picked up everything I would want... then I see the GTA series the whole thing, on sale for cheap today... Damn.

You guys are such enablers

I blame this forum. If I never visited this place for a computer issue when I got my new computer I would have never learned of steam sales.

So in a far stretched out kind of way, you are partially responsible!

I keep looking at it. Except for using some controls to drive the engine, what do you actually do?

You operate both cargo and passenger trains, adhere to timetables, control and maintain speed, adapt to different weather conditions, avoid wheelslip, etc, etc. There's different scenarios you can do which range from Easy to Hard, and can be anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours long in real time.

The learning curve really isn't that big. Most of the challenge is getting used to the "feel" of different locomotives, how they accelerate and brake. That sort of thing. The physics are surprisingly good; when you're sitting in the cab and going around a curve, you can actually feel the train tilting every-so-slightly and bumping along the track.

It can be a very relaxing game (as long as you pick an easy scenario). There's something very calming about sitting in the drivers seat of a passenger train, hearing the engine roar beneath you, and watching the rainy European countryside as it rolls by.

I had a lot of fun with Saints Row 3 so I was considering the GTA IV package, but:

SecuROM + GFWL + Rockstar Social Club to play it, despite it being on Steam.

That's quite the steaming pile of DRM to poop on anyone wanting to play it.

Can we crank it to full throttle and nail cars at crossings?

Will someone please give me a Limbo testimonial? I have it on my wishlist, but I can't remember why. It looks drab.....and spooky which usually isn't my thing.

I bet there's a really cool community behind this game. Could never get into air simulators but this looks cool. And I had some change left from GTA complete.

You can get into some pretty nasty train wrecks if you try hard enough.

Thing is, modern locomotives and rail systems have multiple safety-nets that prevent this from happening. Railway signals will notify you if you should slow down or come to a complete stop in case there's a hazard up ahead. In the event that the train operator doesn't stop or slow down to the appropriate speed, an on-board computer will actually override the controls and apply the emergency brake automatically, and the only way to resume operation is to wait for the train to come to a complete stop.

Road crossings function automatically, so you have no control over whether the gates come down or not. And the game doesn't have "random cars getting stuck in the middle of the tracks, and subsequently getting pwned" programmed in.

...but yeah, you can still get into some wrecks.

I voted for E.Y.E. It's set in a DeusEx-ish world and has lots of weapons and play styles (hacker, assassin, sniper, brute, etc), and looks like it would be pretty fun with a few friends. I considered grabbing a 4-pack a while back and then got too busy to play it. It's already 60% off ($4 ea., $12 for a 4-pack)), but if it goes on sale for 75% off I think I'll bite.

yeah I almost jumped on this last time it was on sale... looks interesting.

You know you buy too many steam sales when you go to buy a game, and find out you own it already...

yes, that really happened to me last night

Really? hm... Windows Live is the only thing I am not for. Everytime I try and log in, it sends me to an internet browser of the 360 saying sorry this site is down.

Otherwise Id have no issue with this. Since it is a desktop I put games on that is always online and rarly do anything else but play/put games on it.

I have it. I haven't really played it much, but my first impression is that it's kind of frustrating. That's something I've come to expect of indie platformer-type games though.

Oh just checked the first page. Only buy daily deals. I picked up the GTA package from somewhere else I think with a smaller discount so have lost out on £6!

Wow, how did you determine this? They should make every game page list all the extra services they make you sign up for, unless they do already?

I'll contribute: Tropico 4 makes you sign up for an account from the publisher. It's not like a Steam or Windows Live account which services a bunch of stuff. AFAIK, it's just for this game. It's yet another login to remember.

I have this on XBL and it's really fun. The controls take getting used to because they kind of "push" you forward. That means you will be doing parts over and over because say you are getting pushed and all of a sudden a cliff is revealed. On first try, you might not realize you have to jump to catch a swing or something. I played for a while but stopped because I got stuck at a frustrating area.

The only reason I don't already own it is because I have no interest in the single player. The multi looks pretty hectic and fun though. Let's see if it wins before I get carried away though.
