Is it really that good? Though at 2.50 that's a moot question. I'm totally getting revved up for Spaz tho, even at 4.99. Spaz supposed to be a top down shooter but the space ship is in the middle, which reminds me of Asteroid (a bummer). Downloading demo atm.

Update on Krater:

Load times seem excessively long.

Also appears that you don't get to select new skills, at least not yet anyway. I'm level 4 on each of my characters in the party and I can add implants and boosters to increase stats or skills, but no new skills yet that I can see.

You can buy some crafting materials.

Looks like there is at least 1 other class, a slasher, as I found a weapon that is for slasher only and none of my current party can use it.

There looks to be an inventory slot that has a bottle and a gear icon on it, but not sure what this is for yet. Edit: this is for gadgets. Just got a grenade that I can slot in there. Not sure if it's 1 time use or not. It added an extra hotbar slot though.

saving appears to be done when you exit the game as far as i can tell. I quit the game inside the 1st "dungeon" and when i logged back in, i was back at the main town.

from what I've heard the dlc is pretty good for the game and the goty edition is worth it.

Played a lot of the base without expansions. Expansions add mainly fixes and improvements, some based on player input, like spies. Price is right, but it's a huge time sink. Staying away.

Yes, one of those games where you have part of the galaxy, and try to get more, building ships with combat. One of the highest praised of the genre. Worth $5 IMO.

On the other hand, maybe you'll feel it's getting a bit dated - it's not a new game. You might check the reviews and screenshots.

The new 4x game Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion was made by the same devs that made the Gal Civ series. That's all they do; space 4x games, and they do it well.

The gameplay is there in Gal Civ 2, but the graphics are dated. I just bought it again to have it on Steam, even though I own a physical copy. If you enjoy strategy/4x games, you'll like it alot.

I really liked it too. I will say that you need a LOT of time to play/enjoy this one to its fullest (and that's just to actually play it...if you want to go crazy with ship design, you should take a vacation), unless they've added a means of speeding it up since I played it 4-5 years ago.

It is asteroid-type, with ship in center, but the best implementation I have ever seen, in that you scroll across a map and control with both mouse and keyboard.

Anyone have a recommendation for good classic arcade top-down (1942 or Commandos, the one where you shot a gun and lobbed grenades) or side-scrolling 2-D shooter (no good example atm)? Upgradeable weapons/skills would be a bonus.
