I'll take my healthy team, that's in first place in the league, over "big" games - which, given the Spurs and their best bench in the league, still put on hell-a-good games.

:whiste:

A lot of talk about Thibs winning coach of the year when Pops is running an efficiency factory over there. Too much 'wow, you're supposed to suck' goes into COTY instead of recognizing someone like Pop who sets standards of excellence every year and predictably achieves it. Sort of like when they gave Barkley and Malone mvp's instead of Jordan again. (not that I'm trashing coach thibs )

It's unbelievable what Durant is doing with that skinny frame of his. He's so much more agile and impactful than his first few years.

I really like what Durant's done over the past few years. For a while there OKC were the kings of the "wildly fling your arms in a circle, throw the ball and flail around like an epileptic at a rave and hope for a whistle," which made basketball basically unwatchable. Harden went to Houston and doubled-down on getting bullshit calls by throwing himself into every player on the court; yes, driving the paint and jumping 6 feet to the left to slam into someone else is obviously a normal basketball play, AND-ONE! Durant got the memo that they weren't going to make those calls anymore (which wasn't true) and decided "to hell with gaming the system, I'm just going to become one of the best shooters in NBA history." And it's just phenomenal. Every time he touches the ball, oh yeah, they're getting points here.

I still think LeBron's the better overall player, but Durant has had a much more impactful season, and he still hasn't hit his ceiling. That's pretty crazy right there.

James Harden can choke on a bag of flopping fines and die.

Most teams are trying to go the healthy route, but it has made for some disappointing games this season. I'm watching about 20% less games overall and the ones I do watch I tend to skip sections more than I have in the past. As the GSW and Blazers have fizzled, so has the number of entertaining games.

watching pti and the first story was about byrd reassigning vogel and assuming coaching duties, was shocked for a good 15 seconds before I realized it was just going to be an april fools story.

To be fair, that can't be much worse than what's happening now. Indiana has utterly imploded in the past month. Hell, maybe they should bring Bird in as a backup to George, remind him how to shoot. A 57-year-old Bird with no spine is still better than Evan Turner.

Agreed, there's not much hollywood in Durant's game, unlike Harden's. He's always been competitive but his attacking has reached another level.

Other than checking up on the 1 and 2 seed in the East I really haven't been following the rest of them. The West is jammed in tight with everyone scrapping for position. I have had some fun watching that from night to night. Between the Dallas, Memphis, Phoenix three way tie for the last two spots I'd like to see Memphis left out. I know they match up better against the Spurs, and F the Spurs and all that, but I'd love to see Phoenix squeak by and get a playoff berth in what was supposed to be a tanking season.

Tonight was so lopsided and ridiculous. Fuck the Thunder, fuck the Refs.

Home teams usually get more calls, and the Spurs were on their 5th game in 7 days while going onto the road against the Thunder that just had 3 days to rest. That kind of combo usually points to the outcome we just saw.

I read something somewhere that the Spurs were 2-9 against the Thunder since their 20+ game winning streak into the WCF a couple seasons ago. That was before the game tonight, so that would make them 2-10 in their last 12 against the Thunder. The Spurs just seem to match up poorly against the Thunder AND also bring out the best in them. They move the ball on offense more against the Spurs than anyone else and they are active and rangy on defense for good measure.

Yeah, the officiating was bullshit. Even non-Spurs fans were wondering what was going on over on Reddit. The double tech was bullshit, and watching Duncan getting mugged two times in a play, then getting a phantom foul when he performed a clean block? That was just one series.

IIRC the Thunder shot twice as many FTs in the game. That tends to happen more often than not with the home team in exciting games. The refs get caught up in the buzz of the arena.

For all the talk of Leonard making the leap this year the Spurs really haven't done much to feature him. Just like in previous years, they are steady throughout the season but due to the age of their Big 3 they can't take it up too much more come playoff time. Duncan will obviously get bigger minutes but Parker and Ginobili are pretty much topped out. If Pop is waiting on the playoffs to start to feature Leonard more I'm not sure that I agree with that tactic.

I think even if Spurs somehow survive the Memphis in the 1st round, the Rockets will take them out in the next

The Spurs could pretty much have their worst three matchups all in order going through the West. The Heat on the other hand seem to have the easiest road to the conference finals.

Just like previous years, the West is full of great first round matchups. The Spurs will struggle against Memphis, OKC and Dallas will be fun with one of the best tactical coaches in the NBA going against one of the worst, Clips and Warriors will be some fun 250 point games (hopefully going 6 or 7), and finally Houston and Portland as teams that mirror each other pretty well.

Are you seriously concerned about Memphis? We're 10-2 against them since last year, including a post-season sweep. I'm not expecting a sweep, but it's not the round I'm worried about.

Last night was a bad game for the Rockets, despite the win and clinching HCA. I think the Rockets are easily beating in a 7 game series, as you have two volatile, young players that get easily frustrated and allow their attitudes to take them out of a game - coupled with a lack of bench & defense, makes it hard to play in a 7 game series. I think the best match-up will be OKC vs. Dallas in the West in round 1.

I'll start my annual get-banned, err I mean, playoff thread today.
