Didn't know there was an ST thread. I've been following this car for quite a while. On October 1st I finally placed my order for an Oxford White ST3 w/ moonroof. I managed to get a nice price between invoice and MSRP plus my bank (USAA) is giving a discount on loans right now so I'll be at 1.25%. Not bad. No VIN yet but I pretty much had to threaten order cancellation for my dealer to give me an order number. I'm pretty sure they were just sitting on the order.

Now the long wait begins.

Haha, I just read your post on Fordstnation about that. See if you can get your VIN from Natasha.

I work across the street from Edmund's.com and saw them driving their yellow focus st this morning.

Im not a fan of the grill on it compared to the normal focus. That Aston grill I just don't like I guess. Theirs was yellow too which seemed kind of terrible. Other than that seems like a good looking car on the street

This car is 35K up here. Consider that 5K more buys a 5.0 GT, V6 Premium is 2.5-5K less. That is with taxes in. Doesn't account for negotiation but c'mon, this is a scrappy FWD hatchback not a luxury touring coupe. Seriously WTF Ford. EPIC Fail.

So another decent fun car has been priced out of the market. Insane.

And yes, the car in that Yellow is just a waste. That front grill needs a bit of work but still better than the '13 Genesis Coupe.

Neither is a mustang. GT (grand touring) vehicles are far more pricey than a mustang and far more luxurious. I mean don't get me wrong, for the way it brutishly throws its power around, the car can be built with alot of creature comforts. But a stang is more adept at the drag strip than long distance luxury driving. A proper GT would be cars like the Jaguar XK, BMW 6 series GT, and Cadillac CTS-V coupes.

It's clear the cars not targeting the performance crown so can we drop that?

I have a serious question having not been in a new gen focus at all and maybe someone can answer it. Is it smaller than a Mazda 3 on the inside?

I see articles stating it's on the same platform but they seem a little smaller to me when I see them driving by. This would actually be good for me- I always thought the Mazda3 was a little too big for me. Or maybe I just didn't feel like I had a good enough driving position, not sure.

For comparison I like the size/spacing of like a Hyundai Accent hatch. That's about as involved as I can get. However the Veloster with it's swept roof doesn't have enough headroom for me (6' 1") so that rules out the Veloster turbo which is probably garbage anyway.

I'm really intrigued by the Focus ST. The main thing I want to wait and see is the real MPG reported by people. I don't see any reason it shouldn't return 35 MPG HWY with real careful driving which would be a big plus compared to other cars with similar performance.

Depends on what you're looking at. On paper (because it's a really small variance) the Focus is a smaller car. The focus sacrifices a little passenger volume compared to the Mazda 3 compared to a larger cargo area (area behind the second row of seats) for the Focus compared to the Mazda 3.

I test drove several of both on my last round of car shopping a few months ago.

I guess it's that I really like a coupe seating position, which I seem to be able to get in subcompact hatches, but most of these full compact hatches (whether it's a Mazda3 or WRX or whatever) I feel too upright and minivanish driving it (sounds ridiculous I know)

Sounds to me like you want a Mini Cooper S.

I liked the Titanium with the manual transmission. Was fun to drive. Since this is more or less a more powerful Titanium, then I'd bet this is a great car. I loved the Titanium, was fun and enjoyable to drive. It had power but you could definitely tell it could stand to have more.

I drove this beautiful fully loaded gem (2013 Ti with every option other than moonroof). It was a wonderful car.

Sadly they wouldn't budge on price and were way over MSRP.

Yeah the one I drove was similar.

Through connections I might be able to get one at employee pricing. I'm not sure though.

How is this possible?

2012 leftover Ti's are going for $4-5K off MSRP now. I got $4K off my Ti 5dr in January and negotiated up my trade $1,500.

Anyone compared these to the Mazdaspeed3? I think I'm in the market for a fun commuter car now.

I test drove a speed 3 when I started looking into the ST. It was nice, very quick compared to my regular Mazda 3 obviously. I think the biggest differences between the speed3 and the ST are Mileage, interior, looks, and features such as Sync. Most say the ST is a good balance between the rawness of the speed3 and the refinement of the GTi.

It will probably be a better DD than the Speed3 and offer a moonroof to boot. Performance stats show it will be a faster and get a bit better mileage. Plus I think the rear seating is a tad bit bigger too.

If it was my coin I would really think long and hard on this car before buying a Speed3 or GTi.

JCH13 and I went to a undisclosed test track today. which happend to be there was a Brand new focus ST. didnt get a chance to drive it but car is quick and responsive even with 3 full grown men in the car. its amazingly balanced and turn in is fanstastic and lift off oversteer is natural and easy to controll. i liked the car already but after sitting in it playing with its goodies and getting a very spirited ride in it. im even more impressed! i would have to say a great balance for someone who wants a sporty practical daily driver and something they can take to the track this car is perfect!

I may have written off the Veloster Turbo too soon. My only experience was with the regular Veloster which was tight seating once I got in it. And there were many things I didn't like about the aesthetics. However I didn't realize the Veloster Turbo fixes a bunch of those (front grill for instance) and overall looks a lot better IMO (with the exception of the wheels)

I get that it's one of the worst performers out of the current "hot hatches", but I'm amazed that it can pull 36 highway MPG and make 180+ hp on REGULAR gas (87 octane) Real world MPG seems to be even higher than that. And the 3rd door makes the back seat at least somewhat functional.

I'll have to revisit a Veloster and see if I can play around with the seat adjustment and get it to work for me.

Still waiting to see the specs on the next gen WRX/STi... they claim fuel economy is going to be an important focus. Seeing as how the new gen Impreza took a giant leap up to ~40 MPG I believe they can do it
