Weird thing about the HVAC controls, if I have my gloves on the "buttons" below the touch screen don't register but the touch screen does. Guess the buttons are resistance based while the touch screen also senses pressure. You would think they should have figured that people with gloves on might want to adjust the heat

It's also voice controled. Hit the voice button on the steering wheel and say "climate temperature" and whatever temperature you want and your done.

this man speaks the truth. Aikouka what is wrong with you? 30K+ and you're looking at a Ford? L.O.L. get a Honda Accord, Acura, Nissan Maxima, Cadillac (maybe), Toyota Avalon, Mercedes C300 (maybe).

You did see what my current car is, right? I already paid $32k for an Altima; so, are you really surprised that I would pay $33k for a Fusion?

Also, some of those cars that you mentioned may be a similar price, but that's for a rather low-end model with no features. I think the Accord may be the only one that is priced similar with a similar set of options! However, you also have to consider that I want something that I also think looks good, and I don't think that some of the cars mentioned in the thread (such as the MKZ and the C300) look good.

I guess it comes down to the old adage of "whatever cranks your tractor."

Oh, and the Fusion has the sexy dark wheels. DARK WHEELS!

why would anyone buy a mid 40k ford sedan?

I just said he should drive one. He seemed very interested in the MyFord Touch/Sync system, and he wanted something that had more power than the 2.0L 4-cyl turbo that's available in the Fusion Titanium. The 3.7L v6 that's available in the MKZ is rated at 300 HP. It was just a suggestion that he should think about it if he really liked the Fusion and just wanted a bigger engine.

Well, nothing is set in stone yet, but I should be getting my grubby paws on a Ford Fusion Titanium! Unfortunately, I have a rather good knack for wanting certain features that aren't very common in builds. This time said feature would be the 19" black rims. You can see a bunch of Ford rims here, and the Titanium has #6, #7 and #8 available. #6 is the default, and they look like bicycle tires... blech! D: #8 looks like a flower, but #7 looks great against the black exterior!

My dealer located an AWD and a FWD at different dealers that may be available, but they can't be sure since the dealers weren't available when they called. The AWD feature is more expensive and not nearly as useful in the south, but since the car doesn't have the moon roof + HomeLink (~$800), the price difference is only about $700. I never use my Altima's moon roof or HomeLink, but figured that I might as well still pay less and go with the FWD if it's available. Well, unless anyone here thinks that the AWD would be more fun to drive? I was rather tame when I took the AWD variant for a test drive.

So, we'll see tomorrow! They were also able to get me the $1500 cash back offer that ended today through a loophole... nice!

You may want to make sure that car wasn't stolen, because the 2013 Altima starts at $21k, and that's for the 2.5L I4!

Also, I think my loan was for $32k, but the car was only $28k or something like that. I'd have to look at the window sheet for it to remember. The only extras that I put on the car were navigation and the spoiler. Frankly, the Altima looks awful without the spoiler on it as I can't stand a car that curves downward at the back.

Why not just order the car and not deal with dealer inventory. My coworker did it two weeks ago. Ordered a fusion 1.6 se exactly how he wanted without having to take stuff he didn't. 4 weeks wait but he got it $100 under invoice too. If you dont need it right away seems like a good way to go

He got it under invoice while ordering it? I would have imagined that you would probably only get it under invoice if it was sitting on their lot or the car model wasn't selling well!

Sure, I could order the car, but I'm not totally opposed to AWD (I was considering it), and I wouldn't mind HomeLink. I just rarely use my moon roof, which I'm assuming accounts for the majority of the $800 cost of that option (I think HomeLink + Auto-Dimmin Rear-View Mirror was $250-300 on my Altima). Now, if I was stuck with models without my necessary options (black exterior, black rims and navigation) or models with my necessary options but too much extra (BLIS ($1000), Park Assist ($1000), etc.), then I would have ordered a car instead.

Yah he got under invoice though I'm not sure if he was counting the holiday cash but he ordered in january.

If I recall he got a 1.6 auto , start stop system black on black with leather a sunroof and the park assist. Basically he wanted the start stop and they never stock those. This was in los Angeles.

I don't think ordering it is so bad. My mom just ordered and got a BMW x3 and it was invoice - holiday incentives so like $1750 under invoice. If anything a dealer can sell out of their normal quotas without worrying about paying floorplan on a regular in stock car. The big dealers who have big allocations tend to be more willing to do it. Still counts as a car sold by then to ford corporate and any performance bonuses they'll get

Well, January included a $1500 cash back offer, and there are more discounts depending on other things (such as active military, etc.). Although, I don't count that $1500 since it's cash back, which means your bill for the car will still include that amount.

Ah, that makes sense... it sounds like he loaded up one of the lower-end (non-2.0) models.

Hmm is there anywhere that I can read about how things work at a (Ford) dealership? I haven't signed anything agreeing to a price (since there isn't a car lined up yet), and who wouldn't mind paying less!?

I checked the car on TrueCar.com, and it lists the average price as $30,417 compared to the MSRP of $33,380. One thing that I did notice is that there were 10 people in my local area that paid MSRP - $1500 (the current incentive), and 10 amounts to a pretty tall bar on that graph. So, that tells me that there's a pretty slim chance that I'm going to knock anything off the car's billed price.

yeah true all those holiday incentives are over. not sure where i ended up reading all this over time.

i've bought ... 4 new cars in the last 10 years and do a ton of research, but one of the articles that helped the most was this one.

http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/confessions-of-a-car-salesman.html

i havent bought a ford ever but i'd imagine its fairly similar at every make of car. when i bought my last 2 cars there were forums online with tons of people talking about how to get the best deal. in fact the last car i bought some dealers would sponsor the forum and get you even better prices than you could get anywhere else (since they knew these were informed buyers, they'd use forum guys as just additional volume, and not screw around with them.... got my car for $1000 under invoice + $1000 holiday incentive in my case).

but generally car manufacturers give incentive dollars to dealers for doing certain things say per year / per month etc. if selling a car under invoice and holdback is going to get them past that quota at the end of a month / year etc, well... might be your lucky day you know.

Aikouka, if you decide to place an order for a fusion instead of taking something off the lot, then you should definitely go to the ford website and request that they send you a brochure in the mail. As long as nothing has changed in the last couple of months, somewhere around 25% of the brochures are sent out with a coupon for an additional $500 off (which can be combined with all of the other existing incentives). It took 3-4 weeks for my brochure to show up.

Also, depending on where you work, you may qualify for X-Plan pricing through the ford partner program. Or one of your relatives may qualify for it (read the fine print of the terms, but basically you just need to live in the same house).

Between x-plan pricing, incentives, and the $500 coupon, I ended up paying under invoice for an AWD Titanium with the 19" H-Spoke wheels and everything except Adaptive Cruise and Active Park Assist.

Although, I don't count that $1500 since it's cash back, which means your bill for the car will still include that amount.

Not true. The $1500 customer cash is taken off immediately.

edit: actually, the coupon from the ford brochures are $750, not $500.

If you have a Costco membership, get it through their program. Got my that way and it was price $300 under invoice with no haggling.

Seems for the Ti FWD most people pay $1K below invoice (took a guess at Atlanta for location)

The first day that I was in there, the salesman did ask me if I was a Costco member. I could easily easily join Costco if you think that it will at least save me $55, which is the yearly membership rate. There is a Costco local to me, but it is a bit further away than other stores, which causes me to not really go there. Heck, it looks like I can even join online, but they say that it may take two days for me to get my membership number, which wouldn't be good! If it's instant in store, that would be better as the Costco store is actually not that far from the dealership.

To note, the salesmen at this dealership aren't on commission, so they don't appear to mind suggesting deals to me.

Yeah, I saw the True Car page for the Fusion in my area, but I also noticed that there were a sizable amount of people that were only paying $1500 below MSRP. I didn't realize it at first, but True Car includes incentives, which means those are probably people paying MSRP and getting the $1500 incentive.

I picked up my Fusion earlier today, and it's pretty safe to say that she's rather purdy! Although, the dark rims really aren't that dark.

It's definitely odd getting used to some of the features. I'm still never really sure whether I've locked the door using the key-less entry feature.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. I got a thing in the mail yesterday with Nissan saying that they were willing to offer at least $5k off a new 2013 Altima, and this isn't an "Internet price."

I'm wondering about a few things in regard to this car...

1) I definitely see why people say that Ford's economy advertisements on the car are a bunch of malarkey. Frankly, the car doesn't seem to get that great of gas mileage. Now, it probably still needs to be worn in a bit, but since I'm only getting 22 MPG with a lot of my miles being at cruising speed with a few traffic lights (that may or may not stop me), I don't exactly hold much hope for it to go up. I was curious if it might work better with a higher octane grade, but the compression is lower than 10:1, so I don't think it would. Any thoughts?

2) I'm pretty used to hearing the noise from the exhaust cooling, but wow... the Fusion makes quite the pop! I was a little worried when I first heard the noise, but then I realized that it was probably just the exhaust. There's someone talking about it on this Ford Fusion forum.

3) MyFord Touch (MFT) is rather interesting, but interesting doesn't always equate to good! To sort of emulate my old experience with CDs, I made a few playlists on my phone that are pretty similar, and decided that I would just shuffle them. Well, MFT seems to have some issues when dealing with playlists and shuffling, because when you reconnect the phone, it will still indicate that it has shuffled the playlist, but the playlist will be in order. When you originally turned it off, it may have indicated that it was on song #4, but now it will state that it is on whatever number that song is on the unshuffled playlist. If you hit Shuffle and then OK, it will reshuffle the playlist. The only way that I've found for getting around this is shuffling on the phone. The only negative aspect there is that my phone will unshuffle the playlist once it's done.

4) MFT also appears to have issues with the Repeat feature. I normally set it to Repeat All so it should go back to the beginning of the playlist when it's done. Well, half of the time when I use Repeat All, it actually just repeats a single song, and the other half, it will act normal. The only thing I can find to fix this is to turn off Repeat.

5) In my opinion, the volume control on the Sony sound system is not very good. Each turn of the knob (or volume up/down button) results in such a huge change in volume. I was listening to Pendulum's Crush, and I just could not get it to a good volume level. At the original level, it was just a little too soft to properly rock out (techno out? ), but turning it up made it too loud. I noticed that someone posted a similar comment about the 2013 Taurus (they most likely share the same system):

My only qualm with the audio system is the volume control lacked granularity. Volume setting number three was too soft, and number four was at times too loud.

I'm not getting great mileage so far on my 1.6L ecoboost, but I'm only about 200 miles in...going to give it a bit yet. But the complaints about Ford's fuel economy advertisements were restricted to the hybrids as far as I know, and the EPA is the one that needs to fix their test.

I use Homelink all the time. If you have a garage it is a great feature. The moonroof I leave the shade open because it brightens up the interior. I'll open it during when it is warmer out and I'm not on the freeway. Too much wind noise on the freeway.

I'm enjoying the car a bit more now that I switched from using my phone via USB to just leaving a 64GB USB 3 thumb drive plugged in. While I doubt that the Fusion supports USB 3, I mostly went with that to facilitate faster transfers from my PC, and if I end up using something else with my car in the future, a USB 3 drive is still useful. Speaking of playing music files, I've been noticing an odd issue. It seems to be rather random, but my music will skip sort of like a CD-based player would if you hit a bump. This report states that turning off automatic phonebook download will make it stop.

Has anyone had any experience with this issue?

I use Homelink all the time. If you have a garage it is a great feature. The moonroof I leave the shade open because it brightens up the interior. I'll open it during when it is warmer out and I'm not on the freeway. Too much wind noise on the freeway.

The only time that I ever had a garage was when I lived in an apartment in New York, but it didn't have a garage door opener on it. I can definitely see Homelink being useful, but unfortunately, I lack an actual use for it. Maybe I will eventually, and then I shall curse myself for ignoring the feature!

Hmm I think I tried leaving the moonroof open a few times in my Altima, but I had issues with it causing a lot of glare on the touchscreen. It is kind of weird not having one just because I was so used to seeing it.

I've definitely seen far more complaints about the exaggerated gas mileage numbers in the hybrid, but I saw a complaint about the 1.6L and 2.0L performance in a sedan round-up article. I'll have to see if I can get the link for it, but in the meantime, the take away was that when it came to gas mileage and 0-60 times, the 2.0L Fusion couldn't beat the V6 Altima nor could the 1.6L Fusion beat the I4 Altima. There were more cars than just the Altima and the Fusion in the test, but those are what I remember.

It seems perfectly fine to me, but I'm one to have my radio up decently loud in the car.

Do you use the speed-sensitive volume feature? I've been tempted to try that out to see if it will help, but I've never actually used it on a car.

Anyway, thanks for the updates.

Does your '08 Fusion also use a Sony system? If that's the case, then that definitely could be the issue. The Sony system does seem to create an interesting "sound stage" (is that the right term?) when it comes to playing music. My system sounds like it's calibrated to the listening position being at the center of the car where the Bose system sounded like it was tailored for the driver. To note, I left the balance and fade at the default setting on both cars. The Sony system was a bit awkward at first with that, but I've grown rather used to it at this point.

The Sony system is supposed to be adjustable for the listening position. Occupancy Mode in the audio settings.

It's the standard entry-level radio, so not sure who makes it. Just odd how I've never had a radio of any kind with that issue before.

I looked last night, and I didn't see an occupancy mode in the settings.

However, I did find out why the sync voice was so ridiculously loud. It turns out that there are two voice volume settings where one is mostly for navigation and the other is for system stuff. The latter is the volume level used when it asks you to keep your eyes on the road (etc.), and it was always really loud. Well, now I have it turned down to an acceptable level! The system volume setting is in a different spot right above the touchscreen beep option.
