So I am in the market for a luxury sports sedan. I have been looking at the lexus and like it a lot. I am however very nervous that the ES350 will drive just as nice and be 10k Cheaper. Any insight?

My father bought the new GS, a GS350F. The interior is great, probably as nice as one of our partner's LS460 inside; however the looks are either love it or hate. The interior on the GS is great, much nicer than the ES.

Personally I think the car has sporty looking credentials it really doesn't deserve.

It's gimicky too. That sport +, sport, eco button is goofy as shit. It brings up images showing improved throttle response and stiffer shocks. Give me a break. 300HP and a zillion pounds. You can't get around that.

Having said that I am a big fan of the red chairs inside.

The ES is a front wheel drive car, so that automatically disqualifies it as a luxury sports sedan, plus it handles like boat.

i was going to state similiar but not exactly about the FWD.

in the past the camry and the ES was the same chassis. Many cases a lot of parts were interchangeable, helps lower the overall cost to repair as long as it wasn't body parts.

I haven't been in the current gens but the older ones. They are not the same cars at all.

If you was to compare the lexus "sporty models" it would be the IS350 and the GS350. The ES and sport have nothing to do with each other. I saw benz's E350 and i thought AMG packaged but then you posted ES350

Test drive and buy what you feel is best. My boss wanted a ES350 but somehow ended up with a altima.

The Es is a barge, very soft, comfy, highway cruiser etc. it's a nice car but totally different from a GS. Test drive both cars and see what fits you.

For everyones info, the new (2013) ES 350 isn't even out yet so if that's what one wants to compare, you can't for a few more months. The current gen ES 350 hasn't changed since '07 but is being re-designed for 2013.
I'm sure it will still be FWD however. The 2013 GS 350 is very cool, drives nicer than the current ES but pricey.

Based on the title, I thought you were comparing it to the 2012 Mercedes-Benz E350, but I guess not.

Why not just get a Camry and throw in some nice seat covers and some vinyl sheets of fake woodgrain and carbon fiber? Bam. Lexus.

def not a Camry, interior totally different, more sound dampening, smoother ride. Also the current gen received a refresh in 2010, and is getting another in 2013. Mechanically it's the same car though.

The new GS has an awesome interior But I would wait till a more powerful engine comes into play for the car and perhaps a new tranny, 8 speed ftw?

There's going to be a GS F, same engine/trans as the IS F.

As for the '13 GS being a 1rst year car, the powertrain isn't new but the interior is newly designed and loaded with new gadgets. Unlike many other makes, I wouldn't be concerned about a 1rst year Lexus plus everything's warrantied (almost) forever.

Agreed. Test drive both.

We get the ES350 as a loaner quite a bit when my wife's car is in the shop and it has always impressed me with its build quality, comfort, and peppy engine. It handles fine. Not barge like at all IMO.

I don't know that the GS is all that sporty either. More sport oriented maybe but not what I would consider a true driver's car either.

I drove 120 miles in the new GS today. It is not sporty. It doesn't feel sporty, except when you go over a pot hole on the 19 inch rubber bands, but otherwise the car felt fairly floaty.

Great car, not sporty at all however. It takes pot holes for you realize you aren't in the much bigger LS.

Huge amount of headroom and legroom in the front though. Seats are quite wide as well and I love the tech. That dual nav screen is very impressive.

There are two sporty Lexus cars. IS350/ISF and LFA, beyond that they are luxury cruisers. However, with traffic and roads these days, the GS would probably make more sense than a sport sedan anyways.

Both are big, bloaty and barge like. I'm sure the GS can murder a lot of similar cars in it's class in the corners, but it really doesn't give you that sensation. It feels more disconnected than a FWD Sonata.

I love the GS interior though. It makes the current ES look cheap. I have not checked out the '13 ES, aside from pics.

Both are extremely comfortable.

I've driven an is350 and its fast but it has almost 0 feel. Feels like you are driving a Prius or something just numb everywhere. Gets good numbers but I'd you care about the feel and feedback of a sports car I'd just not buy a Lexus period.

If you look at the a4 might want to look before 2013 models while it still has hydraulic steering. Who knows what the electric system in next years will feel like
