Raises are very much fixed in my company, there's a table for it and everything. No room for any kind of negotiation.

I got an above average performance review (8% raise) + the annual inflation adjustment (1.5%), so 9.5% total.

I don't understand why people stay at jobs where they haven't received raises in years unless you're getting HUGE bonuses or something. ...
For me, it's because I get 4.2 weeks of vacation each year. I get 2.4 weeks of sick leave each year. 11 paid holiday and 1 floater holiday. And if I retire with more than 20 years (I am at 23), I get 100% medical.
I get no bonuses but I have job security.
I'll take less monthly for a more secure future.

While true, but I'm in the same boat as you (~2%). Isn't that like the inflation-rate/standard raise?
Yeah, and while it's better than nothing...compared to inflation, you are actually losing money.

I'm getting 3.25 this year, but supposedly our health insurance is going up, and if inflation stays at around 2.3% like it has been I'll be taking a cut again.

I did just that (talking to my direct supervisor before raise time that I'm pretty underpaid) yet I still ended up with a ~2% raise despite getting top (of my department) Annual review....

You're probably SOL then. The only way I see you getting an increase is to show them a job offer from another company, but you better be prepared to walk, because they might can you on the spot. Happened to a guy I work with an he was just bluffing.

I'll be in the same boat. I'll net 8% but my medical and retirement payments will go up and off-set most of that.

I was a bit passive on my raises for years as I always got "token" raises on a regular schedule. Last year I decided "You know, I'm pretty much irreplaceable at this company (true statement), so I'm going to start making demands."

I went to my HR dept, said "I want this title, these responsibilities, and this much money."

I got it, no questions asked

I got a 50% raise one year by doing demands and doing a price match, lol. 40 to 60K.

I did it again next year, and they told me I was holding them hostage. I said well this is what I'm worth according to others, right, so what am I really worth to you?

I'm nice all year until the few days when my review time is, then I fight for myself.

Someday you reach a point where you are happy with your salary. I'm actually starting to tip towards I want to work less and be paid less, lol.

I got like a 2% bump (step increase).. my woman who's an educator hasn't gotten one in like 3 years. Quit complaining!

Expecting 6-8% this year. We shall see. Annual reviews are in a couple weeks. I'm definitely underpaid by about 10-15% compared to the regional market, but its hard to argue in this economy. I'm thankful to have a good job.

That sucks for your wife.

Most teacher unions in my area won't take a pay/step freeze, and the teachers are content being out of contract waiting until something changes...at which point they will get all of their raises and prorated money back. So they haven't gotten raises, but eventually they will get all of their money back, and they know it, which is why nobody is too upset about it right now.

Got a ~15% raise in December, which IMO really isn't much for how little I get paid. Thats why I don't like raises based on percentages. New jobs don't really do it based on percentages, they do it based on dollar amount, so if you have a lower paying job, whats to keep me staying at my current job? Another 10% raise that equates to practically nothing dollar wise?

Might have some opportunities on the horizon though, so we'll see how it goes

I don't understand why people stay at jobs where they haven't received raises in years unless you're getting HUGE bonuses or something. I've been out of school 20 years and I've never NOT gotten a raise. I'll probably get a great review this year but a crappy 2% or 3% raise. I wanted to ask for a big raise but I decided I am just going to leave later this year instead.

have you seen the economy and unemployment rates lately? its not exactly easy to switch jobs on a whim. probably lucky he still has the job he does have.

i got like a 2% raise in january, but they told me it was prorated since i started here last july. that was on top of a smaller 2% bonus around xmas time too. it's definitely noticeable though, they treat us great here.

this year i will probably be getting a larger raise though since i will be obtaining something that will make me much more valuable.

I'm expecting a 12-17% raise this year and promotion. However, this also comes with added responsibility so my $/hr will decrease significantly. Such is life in the world of professional services.
