Meh... Stuff I have no interest in. Now if they slash price on RTW2 then I'd be buying something.

Too bad Dead Island Riptide didn't make the list. I actually liked the first Dead Island. Yes, a bit repetitive. But I never tired of running zombies down in the cars/trucks. Just stupid fun (but way too expensive on Steam right now). Maybe Christmas sale. Seems like an appropriate holiday game.

Riptide was only $10 a few days ago during the Deep Silver sale.

I'm thinking about Fallout 3. Should I go game of the year or new Vegas? Can new Vegas be played without the base game?

Fallout 3 GOTY (the base game is Fallout 3) and Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition (the base game is Fallout: New Vegas) are two completely separate games. Fallout 3 came out first but you can play New Vegas without playing Fallout 3 before.

They are two separate games, set in the same world, and each has their own DLC and GOTY edition. They are in separate parts of North America (Washington DC, Vegas area) and the stories are independent.

Fallout 3 was Bethesda, so is open-world with a weak central quest, like Oblivion or Skyrim.

FO New Vegas was Obsidian (ex Black Isle staff, from the original FO 1-2 games) and has a better main quest, better writing in general, but is dinged for being less open world for the first third or so of the game. It also has working iron sights for shooting, while in FO3 you have to rely on VATS targeting (sort of turn-based shooting)

I think FONV is a better game, but you won't go wrong playing the FO3 GOTY first.

Got Metro: Last Light. Pretty fun so far.

Also picked up Brothers, but I don't have a controller so I'll need to purchase one first.

Yeah, I saw that before posting (but unfortunately not while that sale was occurring). Oh well, perhaps during the holiday sale. Nothing brings out the Christmas spirit in me like mowing down a bunch of zombies in a pickup truck.

I must disagree. The game wouldn't exist if the publisher hadn't funded it. They deserve the $5 for creating 95% of an excellent game even if it didn't sell enough copies for them to patch the last 5%.

vtm-b is one of the more classic cases, where the devs were really fucked by the publisher. I say - screw them!

you can google around, but the short version is that they essentially froze the development of the game, held the game hostage, didn't allow to update engine (it came out on an older build of the source engine than the hl2 that shipped at the same time), didn't allow to polish the game, even though there actually was some time left for that, pushed the game out at the same time as hl2 (which was considered to impact sales) and, well, what do we got? a disbanded troika, and a rough gem of a game that we can only dream about "what if it was ever finished".

screw publishers on this one.

Bought me some Pirates!

Just because.

Will also be picking up Final Fantasy VII for $3 once I get home this evening.

^What? I must be missing something here because FF7 is showing as the full $12 on steam. Does this halloween sale have rolling deep discounts or did I miss a daily or something?

Nope, you're not missing anything. It's not on sale on the Steam store. It's on sale on the Ubisoft (UPlay) store... with a steam-able key.

I think I'll pick up the Penumbra titles. What are people's opinions on the Amnesia games?

If you like mindless shooters, Painkiller Black edition is on sale for $1.99. This is a throwback to the days of quake where all you do is run and gun.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/3200/

AI is iffy, music can get repetitive,,,, but overall it is a great buy for $1.99.

There were a couple of places in the game where I just kinda rolled my eyes and asked myself if that was the best the developers could do. Then a few minutes later I was saying holy crap this is awesome.

There is no real story plot. But if you like running around with a machine gun, get this game.

Fallout 3 GotY is $4.99. I remember reviews being pretty good. The last RPG I played was Star Wars: KOTOR. For $5, is it much of a risk?

I bought it due to hype and loved it. I only put 33hrs in it myself but for someone that shoots for sub 20hr games, that's a lot of time for me.

Many people put 100's of hrs into it.

And I personally thought it was way better than FO:NV. I only put about 15hrs into NV and never beat it.

I thought fallout 3 was good. It takes almost an hour for the game really kick off. There is this long introduction were you start off as a baby, and get used to moving around.

Once you get into the world it is easy to find yourself inplaces you should not be for your skill level.

Personally, I liked new vegas better than fallout 3. New vegas throws you straight into the game, and kinda holds your hand to help keep you from going into places until you have leveled up.

Both games are good, it just depends on what you are looking for.

I didn't have the skill level problem with either game. I find if you follow the map for the quests you should be good.

I think our post are a good example of how someone can ask about a game and get two different answers.

For RPG Fans, the GotY version of bout FO3 and FO:NV are no brainers. Same thing with Vampire Bloodlines. These are classics who received less than stellar metacritic scores when they came out due to bugs, luckily most have been fixed and should provide relatively smooth experience.

PS
What we need is a kickstarter campaign for Vampire Bloodline series.
