Too bad Dead Island Riptide didn't make the list. I actually liked the first Dead Island. Yes, a bit repetitive. But I never tired of running zombies down in the cars/trucks. Just stupid fun (but way too expensive on Steam right now). Maybe Christmas sale. Seems like an appropriate holiday game.
I'm thinking about Fallout 3. Should I go game of the year or new Vegas? Can new Vegas be played without the base game?

Riptide was only $10 a few days ago during the Deep Silver sale.
I must disagree. The game wouldn't exist if the publisher hadn't funded it. They deserve the $5 for creating 95% of an excellent game even if it didn't sell enough copies for them to patch the last 5%.
Bought me some Pirates!
Just because.
Will also be picking up Final Fantasy VII for $3 once I get home this evening.
^What? I must be missing something here because FF7 is showing as the full $12 on steam. Does this halloween sale have rolling deep discounts or did I miss a daily or something?
Got Metro: Last Light. Pretty fun so far.

If you like mindless shooters, Painkiller Black edition is on sale for $1.99. This is a throwback to the days of quake where all you do is run and gun.

AI is iffy, music can get repetitive,,,, but overall it is a great buy for $1.99.
There were a couple of places in the game where I just kinda rolled my eyes and asked myself if that was the best the developers could do. Then a few minutes later I was saying holy crap this is awesome.
There is no real story plot. But if you like running around with a machine gun, get this game.
Fallout 3 GotY is $4.99. I remember reviews being pretty good. The last RPG I played was Star Wars: KOTOR. For $5, is it much of a risk?

I thought fallout 3 was good. It takes almost an hour for the game really kick off. There is this long introduction were you start off as a baby, and get used to moving around.
Once you get into the world it is easy to find yourself inplaces you should not be for your skill level.
Personally, I liked new vegas better than fallout 3. New vegas throws you straight into the game, and kinda holds your hand to help keep you from going into places until you have leveled up.
Both games are good, it just depends on what you are looking for.
I didn't have the skill level problem with either game. I find if you follow the map for the quests you should be good.

I think our post are a good example of how someone can ask about a game and get two different answers.
