Man, now I'm being disappointed again. I was ready to buy the Gold Edition of Civ V if it won the Community Vote, but now that I see that Brave New World is not included, I don't think that I want to get it. I was thinking $12.50 woudl be a decent-enough deal for the whole thing, but $20's too much for something I mostly wanted as a placeholder RTS, in case I got bored.

Civilization is an AMAZING (yes, I'm yelling) series. The 'Complete' collection for Civ 5 might go down to $15 by the Summer sale, but if you like games like it, there is simply no substitute.

$20 is not a bad deal by any means, but I understand waiting as I had 'issues' paying an extra $2.50 each for the AC series games. I'm also playing a little waiting game with the new XCom games.

Also, to clarify, it is not a RTS but rather turn-based.

I did not see a combo with BNW in it on Steam. That it is turn-based might be a dealbreaker though, as I was looking for somethj f in the Empire Earth vein, any suggestions of good games in that genre?

The 'complete' collection (it's not named that but it's basically that) is available through Amazon for $20: http://www.amazon.com/GOLD-Brave-Wor...dp/B00ELJROFA/. It requires Steam so it's basically the same as buying through Steam.

I'm not a huge RTS guy, but Anomaly 2 is available on the most recent Humble Bundle for ~4.50 along with a bunch of other games: https://www.humblebundle.com/. I buy almost all HB's and in general I recommend it as a way to build a Steam back catalog for cheap. I'm both proud and a little embarrassed about my Steam collection (now at 221 games), with about 100 that I've never even played.

Edited to add: Amazon is also selling a 17 game Command & Conquer series collection for $20: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009IR1SR0/. You'll also get $5 credit towards their 'Editor's Choice Games'. Depending on how many you already own, it may be a good deal for an RTS fan. It apparently requires Origin though, so it may or may not be of interest to you.

As a quick aside, I personally feel that at these 'huge' discounts, DRM (even EA's and Ubisoft's) is acceptable. But I understand people who think otherwise.

Yeah, I was about to buy the C&C pack a couple of days ago, but after seeing it is on Origin, I passed on it

Yes, you're right Civ5 is TBS and not RTS, but to be even more of a stickler: Anomaly is not an RTS, either. It is tower defense; rather, it is reverse tower defense.

I have the first one and enjoyed it for a few levels but got rather bored with it and never finished it. I paid, I think, 7 or so dollars for it shortly after release a few years ago. I wonder if the 2nd one is much different--I like the concept, but the implementation seemed very lacking to me in the original :\

Yea, I realized it was more Tower Defense than RTS after I posted, but it's cheap and real time strategyish, right ? I also couldn't think of too many other RTS's on a good sale, and I like to pimp the HB's as much as possible, .

I'm a big fan of Tower Defense games (Defense Grid is my favorite), so I'll give Anomaly 2 a shot and won't expect too much. At $4.45 (with about 8 other games included (Solar 2 and AAAAAetc as the other games worth tryingish)), with $1 or so to charity, it's hard to complain.

Back to the real RTS discussion, I own but have not played the Dawn of War series and Supreme Commander. I haven't seen them on sale yet but they might be worth checking out.

I think the first one was worth ~$5. This one does look a little better. I mean, it has mechs at least, and seems to be more upgrading.

The first one was on rails and you were very limited in terms of controlling the path of your unit. I would like something more like Defense Grid or even Revenge of the Titans, where the "hordes" (the player in Anomaly) have more freedom to move through the map and are trapped only through chokepoints and towers.

Well, I get that your convoy was moving through city blocks, so it would be limited in real life, but the ability to at least stop your convoy would have been nice.

Metro Last Light for $13.59 ... probably will grab that, even though my backlog of games to play is growing.

In another thread, people mention Anno 2070 as a good city builder, but I seem to remember hearing all kinds of horror stories about it being incredibly buggy and slow. Worth picking up?

Yeah, Metro: Last Light and Doom 3: BFG Edition are on my Wishlist, so I'll be heading over to Best Buy for a Steam card here in a few minutes.

G+K and BNW are vast improvements over vanilla. They make CivV what it should have been from release. IMO, of course.

I agree..

You can buy Gold first and Brave New World later/separate. I would say definitely don't just get the base version.

FYI, Best Buy has the spend $100, get $15 Best Buy gift card free deal going on right now. You might want to take advantage of that, which includes Amazon Kindle gift cards (that can be used on anything at Amazon).

I would, but I don't need $100 of stuff from Best Buy. I went and grabbed a $20 card for DOOM 3 and Metro: Last Light, but that's all they sell. I don't think I'll spend another $80 on Steam games this winter, nor do they sell parts worth a damn to buy.

So how's LEGO: Lord of the Rings?

I bought it yesterday and I already played a little over 1/3 of the game (main quest). I would say that it is a nice game, better than expected, but you must use a controller.

I never played any LEGO game until now.

I don't think it was the game, but the drm involved during Ubis worst days. I think the drm has been patched out though and isn't "always online" or limited installs anymore.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is one of the Daily Deal for $1.79. Looks like a pretty decent Indie platformer.

It is a pretty good game actually. I think there is a demo on Steam as well, though I'm not 100% sure without checking.

I voted for Injustice: Gods Among Us in the Community Vote because I'm sick of the indie games...

PSA: Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons, is extremely cool. I just bought it on sale for the 360 (in fact it's still on sale for the 360 for $5 as well). Great artwork and a unique control scheme. However, if you go get it on PC you must have a controller to play. You are controlling both brothers at the same time, one with each controller stick. It sounds kind of nuts but it's pretty awesome once you get used to it.
