I'm waiting for $10 on base Skyrim. I couldn't get into Oblivion, so I don't feel like wasting more than that if I hate Skyrim.

I'm waiting for $25 or less on Skyrim Legendary. I've got enough backlog that I can afford to wait. I had a hard time getting into Oblivion, but I think I'll try and play it again before getting Skyrim.

I'm also shopping for the kids account ? ( 6-7 yr old)
Have:
Bully
Castle Crashers
Scribblenaughts
Torchlight II

Any other ideas to watch for deals on ? Currently, they play Minecraft almost exclusively .. Trying to expand their horizons a bit

World of Goo (75% off during this sale).

some games they had before the sale that they seem to like are orcs must die 2, spore, and left for dead 2. they also like plants vs zombies, if yours dont already have that.

Do not judge skyrim by oblivion or morrowind...they are completely different beasts. Leveling is better in skyrim. Combat seems to have been tweaked somewhat so it is a bit more fluid.

Also interactions seem a bit better also between NPCs though they do get repetative (as with any game). The add ons for solstheim and vampyre/werewolf is also pretty fun and adds a nice additional storyline (along with new armours etc).

Grabbed Mark of the Ninja. Tempting on Serious Sam, but I think I've got enough FPS to keep me busy for a while.

Thanks for the input on Dishonored, Craig234, Kaotic, and Kyle! I like "stealthy" games, so I'll bite on it over Max Payne 3.

I only buy cheap games and I still have a backlog that I haven't touched...

I played Alan Wake on xbox when it came out and it was a great game. Wasn't overly horrific or terrifying but still seemed to give that constant intense/scare feeling.

For $3 or whatever cheap price, it's a pretty safe bet that you'll get your money's worth. Can't comment about using keyboard/mouse for controls.

Crusader Kings 2 any good? From what I'm gathering, it's more about socioeconomic development than just fighting people (i.e. Total War)...that'd be right up my alley...

On man, that is a dense game. From what I remember it has a lot to do with production and relationships rather than straight warfare. However be warned it is not a game for the casual.

Hmmm...I'm conflicted. According to my brother, Oblivion is better and should be played first. However, the amount of work to get a functional and good-looking install of Oblivion (i.e. lots of mods) is a pain.

But according to you, I should just scrap Oblivion and get Skyrim (paraphrasing, obviously ). $36 doesn't seem to be a bad price including all the DLC.

Decisions, decisions...

Wow, I forgot my password and had to reset it for the sale, also used a pre-paid rebate card to buy some wallet funds. So I can't use the market for "a few days" which is understandable I guess, except it says barring any other hiccups I'll have access August 11th. Yeah, that's not a few days.

If you want to use other money, I'd think you could make another account and buy gifts to put on your account later.

Can someone remind me: was Legend of Grimrock a flash sale or daily deal?

I missed it and want it and am trying to contemplate my odds of getting another chance (I think they're good).

If it's not, I can take care of you if we can find a trade or way to transfer funds. Good pick.

Very kind of you to offer! Let's see what happens during the rest of the sale. I saw it was on sale for $3.75, went to get it but life got in the way and I forgot about it.

If they like Minecraft, they will probably love Terraria. Reus also struck me as a good game for young players.

I paid full price, and Mark of the Ninja was worth it. Great stealth platformer.

World of Goo (75% off during this sale).

Thanks guys, much appreciated

Any good fun, casual games like Peggle on sale?

I can suggest 4 elements and Faerie Solitaire for $2.49 each, and Luxor games that are $5 each.

I'm not a big 'match 3' bejeweled type fan, but 4 elements is fun, more 'action oriented' and mixes it up just enough.

Luxor is a franchise (collection $13.59) - and progably the closest to Peggle, but pretty different. It's shooting rolling groups of marbles.

Faerie Solitaire also adds elements making it more fun than other solitaire games.

Some of the best 'casual' I've found.

I voted Skyrim. Benchmarks seem silly to pay for, and the others were already on sale. Also Skyrim is an awesome experience especially the first time through. People really need to see it.

For those who still dont have New Vegas:

You REALLY want all the DLC. Each of them adds cool junk to the regular game so even if you never explore those areas you still have more content.
One of them doesnt add any new areas, just better weapons and ammo.

Also make sure to sign up for a free account at http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/ and at the very minimum get the mod manager, and the script extender.
Agreed, and a lot of mods don't work unless you have the DLC. It's an awesome game, and I say that as an FPS fan rather than an RPG fan.

My youngest grandson (6) adores Plants vs Zombies.

One thing I really wish Steam had is a way to classify/search kid-friendly games for those of us with little time.

Storyline is better (and main quest line lasts MUCH MUCH longer) in Oblivion, however what the main story lacks, the side quests, additional abilities (the shouts, not to mention flying on a dragon). The additional DLC gives more options for storage, houses, weaponry, crafting, shouts etc.

It is more than worth the $36 for all DLC and full game.

Agreed on Faerie Solitaire. It's the ultimate casual game: not too hard, engaging, fun, but also very relaxing....the soundtrack is pretty cool....maybe calming is a better word.
