So...I'm going to...vent a little here. I took a chance and purchased Trials Evolution due to some of the comments about it here and the trailers looked pretty interesting (and different from what I normally play).
Firstly, the game itself is kinda fun. It could be very fun, but it's not and here's why:
1. Uplay -- Probably would not have purchased it had I realized it was Ubi w/Uplay but whatever. Once it installed and updated and updated and updated I finally got into the game...or did I?
2. Required accounts just to play a fricking game. Apparently....at some point in my life..I've registered my email with Uplay...I have no idea when, but once I got that sorted, I was in!
3. Heavy consolitis and the ADD me me me generation. Now, I like consoles, however I really do not like the path consoles have chosen to go down the last generation and this game is a prime example of what is wrong with the industry. The heavy ADD socialization of gaming that interferes with single player gaming.
a) Cloud saving, while good, is terribly slow at least on this game which does it EVERYTIME YOU EXIT A ROUND. While not directly related to the above it is because those stats are uploaded to their servers for everyone else to see every round you race.
b) Interruptions because the game can't connect to the server telling me I'm missing out on all the great things that being connected to the server provides me. Really? I'm playing single player morons.
c) asking me to youtube, facebook, tweet every little action I do....yes..some of us do not care to look at 100's of pictures of you playing a game nor do we care to share them.
d) For some reason all my normal methods of using a controller will not work on this. It has controller settings...but none work for me. I'm sure that's just something I need to try to fix at some point but the controls are easy enough, however the menus themselves are horrible to navigate. If you are going to port to PC, at least make some changes to the UI.
e) COUNTLESS UNSKIPPABLE INTRO SCENES. WTF? Over 1 minute of "brought to you by, blah blah blah blah" screens that play every time you run the game before you can get to the start screen. Seriously. Not cool.
f) Uplay on top of Steam. While...ya..whatever, why do both of these systems feel the need to do popup advertising on me when I exit the game? Really? All it does is put me off of your product. It's already very apparently I'm running 2 programs that really have no business running anyway, but you forced me to use them just to play your game, as well as complicating the process to begin with.
Publishers. Just let me play my game. I do not need you throwing all this needless crap at me. Quit making me jump through hoops to play your games. Do not make me wait from the time I load your game till the time I jump into your game. You should already know this due to the ADD crowd. By the time I can actually play your game, I no longer have an interest.
Maybe it's the PC gamer in me, but I do not need handholding popups that interrupt my gameplay every 30 seconds. I do not need you also interrupting my game to tell me I might be missing out on some semi useless service. That is just rude.
If you can ignore all the above, this game is fun, otherwise, it's just another example of how gaming is no longer careless fun that it used to be and an even better example of why consoles should never been connected to the internet.
