Same here

Only title I ever bought on Origin was BF3 and I still haven't played it because Origin Screwed me over with the game.

I went through a phase where I was testing/building/selling PC's (had quite a few of them at one point) and was using BF3 for testing game performance. One day I went to install it on a PC and Origin wouldn't let me, maxed out activations. Issue was I wasn't uninstalling them before formatting the PC's on there way out the door. I've done this countless times with Steam, and Steam has never blocked me for anything. (they have the whole verify email/code system to make sure its me).

So yes I realize this was technically my mistake, but Origin to this day has not allowed me the play the game. There Customer Support is awful, and I haven't bought a single Origin game since. If it's not on Steam, I don't buy it.

Infestation (AKA WarZ) a top seller? Do people not even look at the metacritic ratings? 20...worst I've seen for a game and I wouldn't play that game for free due to the shitty developers behind it.

Just ask here (or start a new thread if it's not a sale period). If Dankk and/or KaOTiK haven't played it, it doesn't exist

I look at them. Many major review sites have called it terrible, etc. Gamespot gave it a 2/10. That's probably a good idea that the game isn't that good, even is Review sites are *tainted*

$3.74 is worth a try for many. (or Affordable new game to try)

And those that buy everything possible on these sales.

I also look at metacritic as a general measure of how good a game is. If its cheap and the metascore is decent, ill usually buy it. If i see a terrible metascore, ill usually pass.

more expensive games i usually pass on until they are under $10, and if i do buy something at close to full price, Im sure i heard about it on here/reddit/youtube etc.

Im also offended that that peice of garbage is selling, and that its on steam in the first place.

I buy way more games that I should compared to games i actually get around to playing, but i dont feel bad about it, because I like to support game development, and more specifically indie game development. When asshole developers who are in it just to make a quick buck, and will willingly screw their buyer, change the name of a previous game so people who heard about how bad the warZ sucked, I have even more of a problem.

Ideally i think there should be a disclaimer for people buying this game - since there is not, im glad the metascore is 20! At least people smart enough to look further into it will see what a pos this game is.

On the flip side, if i didnt keep up with games, I would look at a game like ace of spades and think it was bad because of a very low critic metacritic score (49), but from what Ive read, they have greatly improved the game since its initial release, so i have no problem spending 3 bucks on a game like that.

I think the solution for games like ace of spades is to do what kerbal is doing. Allow people to buy if they want to while the game is still being polished, but dont let anyone review until its final. I guess that doesnt affect crappy games like warZ, but I can only hope those devs never make a game again, and that the only people who bought it must be pretty dumb anyway, so who cares if they lost money.

There's a difference between a metacritic score of 68 (considered absurdly low by gaming journalism standards, but not actually that bad) and a score of 20.

I agree that it's dumb to look at metascores too closely, ignore anything that gets below 70, think that a 78 is so much better than a 75, etc. But like all statistics, you just have to know how to use them. Remember that it's an average, not a single number. And take a look at the user reviews as well, remembering that fanboys like to jump in and rate a game 1 or 10 without playing it.

The joke's on them. I just stopped buying EA titles instead!

Same.

I don't really mind Origin, but I do not like the way EA treats their customers by pulling servers for two year old games, so you'll buy the 2013 version, and the whole Sim City nonsense about needing a cloud to do calculations.

With the way they are going, pretty soon EA games will be a base game where you can browse the options, and DLC for every level you want, that can only be played online, and installed once.

It's as if they are actively trying to drive gamers away.

I will never buy that game simply because seeing it in my library would get the &$*$ song stuck in my head for 2 days

Metacritic is a great tool.

When I'm looking at a game, I'll check the score, read a couple of user reviews, then read a couple of pro reviews - one positive and one mixed. Being able to do all this from one webpage is pretty damn handy.

And, even if the score is low, my decision to buy rests on a combination of what I've read and the score. I've bought low score games before and loved them.

Unless you have half a brain, it is pretty easy to tell when the review scores are being tampered with.

Metacritic is my go-to review site. It's easy to spot fanbois. What I really look at is current reviews for games that have been about a year or so to see if developers have fixed issues over the life of the game. If I see a review a year after release that mirrors a review right after release, then it sets off a red flag in my head.

Conversely there have been games ranked 90+ on metacritic that just weren't for me when I bought them. (I keep trying to like RTS for example). Its a great tool though and far more useful than any single rating. If a game scores above 80 and I like the genre I don't look too deep. Below that I read a few of the mid-range reviews and see what the bad parts were. Sometimes its just something like bad multi-player. Something I don't care much about on many games.

Now it looks like they changed it from Skyrim to Skyrim Legendary Edition? Surely I'm not the only person waiting for Skyrim to be $10. Guess I'll wait til Christmas.

Skyrim shows 40% off on the popup when you start Steam, but I can't get to the store page; just shows a white screen.

Will be a few mins till I can update the OP. I can't even get the front Steam page to load anymore. I was able to list down all the games on sale but the wrong prices were still on them so refreshed and not just getting an error ugh

I like Steam. But Valve's ability to update data on their sites and have servers that can handle the loads is really lacking this sale. The Community Market server has been particularly atrocious the past 24 hours. Valve, if you don't have the infrastructure don't do the trading card thing until you do!!!
