What kills me is Forever had something like an average of 7m viewers....it can't have been that expensive to make. I did really enjoy that show, and I can't quite put my finger on why because it really isn't all that different from all the other super smart buddy cop detective shows.

The 18-49 ratings were weak though and ABC's second lowest drama in the demographics at the 10PM slot. It only beat American Crime but that show has critical acclaim which probably caused ABC to renew that ahead of Forever.

What might be more surprising is all the people here who seemed to like it as well.

From the site I usually heck, Forever got about 5 million viewers for the past while, but articles said 7 million. DVR and on demand? That's funny because that same site showed that Agent Carter and Agents of Shield had very comparable ratings to Forever, yet they got renewed -- Marvel movie tie-ins probably bank-roll the shows though.

It was up against Person of Interest (~9 million viewers) and Chicago Fire (~8 million). Maybe there was too much watchable stuff in the time slot. One other thing I heard was that it may not have been advertised enough. I can't say if that was true or not because our local channel gets shown instead of ABC's broadcast due to ads. The local channel advertised Forever non-stop, almost every commercial break across more than one channel in August and September, which is why I gave the premiere a chance.

The problem was it was associated with the marvel storyline and it was rather boring for the first 2/3 of the series.

A lone spy or 2 was all we got mostly.

I hated the show. I love the MCU, and have spent most of my life working in and around comics. This show fell into the same trap the first season of SHIELD did. It sold itself as a Marvel show without any superheroes. It was hard to view the show as a pre-MCU when they kept winking and calling out MCU stuff. It also kept beating the me over the head with the "It's a rough era for women, but our girl has moxie and won't be put in the box!"

To be fair, I will say that even after SHIELD has fixed the non-Superpowers issue, they're still pretty boring. I keep expecting them to announce next year they'll be on the hunt for Skye's childhood dog. I feel for them as Network TV has to really blow to write for. The mouth breathers and kids would be lost quickly if they went deep like Daredevil.

Clearly from that point of view there's no reason whatsoever for you to be liking the shows, and that is completely fine. The question is why you bothered with them. The two shows are not falling into 'the same trap' of being a Marvel shows without heroes, because they flat out announced up front right from the very beginning that there wouldn't be any superheroes in them. And the 'rough era for women' thing is not trying to beat you over the head, as Peggy's struggle in her work place is actual part of the story line!

And they're not 'pre-MCU', more like they're parts of MCU, the giant universe Marvel is creating. Just like DareDevil, they are side stories to the series of big blockbuster movies Marvel is coming up with.

All I'm saying is, what you dislike about the two shows aren't their 'mistakes'. It is what they are and what they wanted to be exactly! Simply put, they're just not for you, and that's completely fine.

Starting to get details on the Summer season. Last Ship and Major Crimes given another year. Falling Skies slated for an additional final season.

Did/does anyone else struggle with the acting in Falling Skies? Is it better now than it was in season 2? I thought the story like was great, the writing was mediocre (it's damn hard to write a good script, so no offense to the writers,) but the acting and directing sucked. The ER guy is good-Noah something, the doctor is a great actress and it's not her first rodeo, and she's easy to look at, so she's good. But the rest...uggh. It was like watching an acting class.

No, I couldn't have done better...well, probably could have...

I realize this thread is for shows that gave it a whirl and didn't make it, but I wanted to mention that Justified ended too, but not by request. The main writer, who's books created the main character, story line, etc., passed away toward the end of last season and that was it. They had plenty of loose ends to tie up, so they did one last season, which was ok, and that was it. I thought it was a great show.
