Which of the 6 models will be nice for a weekend track car maybe daily driver I want to get the most HP/Torque with only bolt on's of course loud exhaust that sounds aggressive and matches with how fast the car is going also best bang for the buck car and upgrades and also longetivity and future proof with finding parts etc since evos are discountinued.

2014 EVO GSR $27,000 20k miles 5speed
2014 EVO MR $29,000 22k miles SST
2015 EVO Final Edition $37k 10k miles 5spee
2015 WRX $25,000 24k miles 6speed
2015 WRX STI Limited $32,000 18k miles 6
2015 $38,000 WRX Launch Edition 25k

I'd either get the Evo GSR or the STI. Those are your best bets for building a track car.

I'm an STi guy myself, but the EVO MR is faster by a fair amount around a track IIRC. At this point though, you'll probably have way better aftermarket support for an STi

the evo gsr... don't mess with the subies if you want to make power. they will pop. don't mess with the SST in the MR, it will limit you unless you want to put too much money into it.

get the GSR... it won't be as nice of a daily as a wrx might be, but it will make power easier and go faster round a track

the evo X doesn't make power like the VIII or IX's do.... I have 68k on a stock block evo IX MR with an FP red @ 33psi making 530+ whp. try that with a subaru

In the mid-30's, I would be looking at a Corvette or CTS-V. You can easily find a C6 Z06 or a 2nd gen CTS-V for that.

You say weekend track car or maybe daily driver. Those two should never go together. It's either one or the other. Which is more important to you? That needs to be determined BEFORE you choose what car you will buy.

You can forget about the EVO MR. The SST will overheat after a few laps during HPDE. I removed my foglights and added a fan to the stock trans cooler and it overheated after 12 min. I'm also not a novice. My GTI w/ DSG was far more reliable on the track. I wish I had never traded it in on the EVO. I tried to throw a bunch of money at AMS Performance to make my EVO work on the track and they told me to buy another car...

How often do you actually drive at a racetrack? Real racing cars are absolute shit on public roads.

Agreed to choose one over the other (daily / track).

That said, what about an older M3? I know M3 owners who owned EVO's and STI's and as they got more serious about racing had to change platforms.

If you're just getting into racing, I'd get a Miata.

A powerful car is just going to get you into trouble that much faster.

I vote STi. Skip the Launch Edition as it's not worth the price premium IMO. I also agree that you'll have ongoing support for the STi, longer.

The general rule of serious racing (ie wheel to wheel) is that it's going to cost about order of magnitude over the price of the car. So to race a $30k supped up sedan you can probably get at least an R8 for a daily.

This is actually a worthwhile bit of wisdom. Call some shops and see what they recommend. This is what these guys do for a living and can tell you what they have seen. When they tell you to not do it, don;t do it.

This. Also, don't race a car you can't afford to wad up and throw away. A Miata also gives lots of growing room in terms of competitiveness with series such as Spec Miata.

Besides, being fast on a track is more about the loose nut behind the wheel than the car itself. Get something modestly-powered for a little bit of money and put some real time on the track with it before you put $30k+ into a prepped car. You'll know (1) if you actually like it, and (2) perhaps what sort of platform you might want to get serious with.

Generally speaking almost any car is terrible if money matters. Spec miata is nearly the cheapest and running costs are at least 10-15k/yr barring the car (>50k new) or incidentals.

Unless someone is supremely talented learning anything comes slowly without making mistakes, and crashing something 10-20k+ makes mistakes too costly for most, which only spirals up the cost per amount of acquired skill. "Aspiring" enthusiast racers are rarely advise of this because precious few are in a position to dispense it.
