$1.79/gallon near me. Never thought I'd see gas that low again. I will, fortunately or unfortunately, not take advantage of it because I no longer have to drive my car very much

Finally went below $2 around here over the weekend. Almost can't wait until I need to fill up!

Today was that day. Just under $30 for my SUV to fill it up. I should start eating out more to balance out all this money I'm saving on gas.

It had fallen as low as $1.84 in Lexington recently. Took the hike back up to $2.19 yesterday. Not sure why as crude has been steadily falling. A few weeks from now, it will be back down to the $1.84 or lower range (assuming oil doesn't spike back up).

This feels like the 70's all over again - OPEC going to try to break the US oil producing market.

35 cent jump, cents more than the usual 30 cents.

Let me know what the Oil Fan Boys here say the reason is especially like you said Oil still dropping. It's not maintenance or blend change time yet either.

Happy New Year.

Man I am pissed. I haven't paid this little for gas in years, and it pisses me off. Who can we complain to about these price drops? We're being gouged!

It's the distibuters and station owners as it's always been, no one else is experiencing these jumps. Gas prices are still dropping here.

Saw $1.82 at the pump yesterday, paid $1.52 with my $0.30 off coupon from shopping at Krogers. I haven't paid 1.52 for gas since... damn.

It used to no happen this way. The last 5+ years, it's strange. It isn't just Lexington it seems to be Indiana and Ohio + Kentucky. Tennessee and below isn't effected.

Londo mentions (and even pointed to an article) that it's competition....but I still don't see it. There's no reason, other than more revenue, for a price hike right now, especially when you consider the size of the hike.

From $1.84 to $2.19 is a 20% price hike. I will say that from 11/25 until a few days ago was the smoothest the curve has been (no spikes - just nice, straight line) for years.

I posted about it for the last 5 years and the nuts on here swore it was not happening. At least now they acknowledge it even though they are clearly wrong on what is causing it.

It was nice to not come around the corner and not see a huge spike for almost 2 months.

We have posted time and time again that these spikes only occur in the eastern midwest. You even posted a link that described what happens (rockets and feathers). The rest of the US and specially the south where the refineries are located do not see these spikes and tend to follow wholesale prices. It has to be the distributers and gas stations that are causing the spikes and slow drops in prices.
