Time for my yearly thread of Superbowl predictions! Last year I picked the 49ers to win it all. Close but no cigar.

My predictions in the past has been pretty solid overall...
2011/2012 season predictions
2010/2011 season predictions

But all that crap is in the past. Let's get right to it.

This year in the Superbowl I foresee...(hmm, still doing research as I'm posting this thread)...

The Denver Broncos vs. San Fransisco 49ers with Peyton taking home the Lombardi trophy!

That's what I came up with. I hate to go with the easy pick Superbowl favorites (originally was thinking maybe Pittsburgh), but I could find no reason why the Broncos shouldn't be the best team in the league this year. They got Peyton Manning, 3 great WRs in Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, and Eric Decker. They also got a veteran head coach, and a pretty solid defense (although perhaps not as good as last year).

Tough to pick the NFC this year. There's Green Bay, 49ers, Seattle, Atlanta, The Saints with their head coach back. Going with the 49ers again (not exactly a risky pick, either :hmm with berserker Jim Harbaugh at the helm. That fantastic defense and explosive offense...they will be a tough match for the Broncos.

But of course, all predictions are based on players/teams staying healthy which is certainly never guaranteed in the NFL. Also possible I might get the itch to change one of my Superbowl teams before the season officially starts (Sept 5th). Once the season starts, all my predictions are then set in stone!

Now it's your turn! Who do you see in the Superbowl this season?
Out with injury by 8th game.
49ers, all the way.

Buffalo Bills vs. Minnesota Vikings. One of them will finally break their 0-4 SB record.

Wait, we weren't talking about 2024?

As much as I hate him, Brady embarrasses Peyton in the AFC championship...because that's what he tends to do.

Except, of course, the last AFC Championship they met in.

NFC will come down to the 49ers, Green Bay, and the Giants. The AFC will come down to the Ravens and Broncos. I don't think the Patriots can beat either on most days.

The Falcons won't make it, and since the Texans are the Falcons of the AFC, they won't either.

anyway...Niners over whatever inferior team the AFC poops out this season.

I have to agree, and even though Ravens fans are going to jump all over me, I'll say it -- the 49ers were the better team last year. The better team doesn't always win the Super Bowl - see Patriots in SB 42, Colts in SB 44, Bills in SB 25 -- the list goes on and on.

People keep talking about this but so far from the pre-season it looks like the Ravens defense will be better than last year. Their biggest losses have been Anquan Boldin and Dennis Pitta. I think the receiver/tight end situation will be their biggest weakness, not defense.

You may very well be right. Previous superbowl winners are usually contenders the next year (though the winner has repeated only 8 times). I'll admit haven't seen much of their preseason play, but I'm also wary of reading too much into it. It is worth noting, though, that what they lost was leadership and not talent. Both Ed Reed and Ray Lewis were on the downswing last year, so it's not unreasonable that the addition of Elvis Dumervil more than offsets the loss on the talent side.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Ravens are as good as last year even though they lost so many starters. Though, like IndyColtsFan I don't think they were the best team in the league last year, they got on a Giants-like Superbowl run and Flacco was pro as fuck (for lack of a better term) in the playoffs. They certainly deserved the Lombardi trophy but I don't think they were a top 3 team. That's why the NFL playoffs are so awesome, any team can win.

The Ravens team that showed up for the playoffs was completely different from the one that played in the regular season. The 2012 regular season Ravens were barely above average and if the Steelers weren't having a much shittier than average year it's questionable that Baltimore would have even made the playoffs. Say what you will about Joe Flacco being streaky though, he did show up in top form at just the right time.

Aside from Flacco's inconsistent ways I think that the Ravens o-line is questionable. Part of the reason that they did so well in the playoffs was that Bryant McKinnie was plugged in at left tackle after sitting out the entire regular season so he was fresh and ready to go. Now that he's the starting LT I think it's very questionable if he'll be able to last an entire season. If he does down there is no one to replace him (I don't care what The Blind Side said, Michael Oher is not an NFL left tackle) and Flacco will get pounded.

Coaching has a huge part in the outcome as well, BB went for it on a 4th and 13 instead of a 44yd FG attempt, a WTF moment that ended badly. I have and always will give credit to the Giants D line for that game, they played like mad dogs and Brady was either getting sacked or rushing throws to avoid getting sacked the entire game, they played like the Pat's D did in the upset of the Rams in '01, off the chain..

Green Bay cut Vince Young a couple days ago claiming he didn't have enough time to learn their system, then today they bring in Seneca Wallace who has ZERO time to learn their system to replace him? I'm confused. They also cut Rodgers' other backup so Rodgers had no backups at all for a while yesterday. Green Bay acting like the Jets, it seems. They better hope Rodgers stays healthy

I would be shocked if the Giants make it to the superbowl.

And the Colts were the better team in SB 44? Yeah right

I don't understand it either. I am guessing maybe there was some locker room shenanigans going on with Vince Young?

There wasn't enough time for *Vince Young* to learn their system.

The Colts were the better team -- sorry, but it is true. I have no doubt that if there were no injuries and the Saints and Colts played 10 times that year, the Colts win 7 times.

A Broncos/49ers Superbowl, you say?!

Kinda the least exciting Superbowl pick to make though. I feel bad about it, It's like the equivalent of picking 4 number 1 seeds in a NCAA tournament bracket. Oh well. Will see how the season plays out, anything can happen. Last year my Houston/49ers pick was looking pretty good most of the year.

Says the biased Colts fan. I'm a Falcons fan and I hate the Saints but they were the better team.

Whatever top NFC team doesn't get raped by injuries. Talent minus injuries determines SB. This makes predicting a winner early in the season pretty silly.

Am I the only one here not thinking the Packers will even contend this year? And I am a Packer fan...

I mean, the preseason they looked horrible. They have no QB depth, so it will be all on Rodgers. Lost 2 WR targets, and a hurt OLine. Do have a new Running threat though.

Defense is still iffy per normal.

And honestly how often does more than 2 #1 seeds make it to the final four? Not often.

I don't see the broncos making it. They have issues, that will become more apparent as the season goes on.

Giants vs Jets, Giants win 77-0. Eli throws for 6 touchdowns and runs for 5 more.

I felt that the Vikings where the better team that year, but the Saints winning was pretty much destiny.
