Am I the only one here not thinking the Packers will even contend this year? And I am a Packer fan...

I mean, the preseason they looked horrible. They have no QB depth, so it will be all on Rodgers. Lost 2 WR targets, and a hurt OLine. Do have a new Running threat though.

Defense is still iffy per normal.

I actually think the Packers will have a mediocre-to-bad season. I think at this point, just about everyone trusts Aaron Rogers to walk on water and lead any kind of broken and talentless team to the Promised Land...for whatever reason.

And that's pretty much what you see in every explanation of why people think they will do well:
"Yeah, the team is a shell of its former self, it has literally no remaining talent in all but one skill position, but, um.....AARON ROGERS IS JESUS!"

And honestly how often does more than 2 #1 seeds make it to the final four? Not often.

I don't see the broncos making it. They have issues, that will become more apparent as the season goes on.

More than likely, such issues will only become apparent in the playoffs, as the Broncos have the luxury of sailing along the sewer of the AFC West throughout the regular season.

Let us not forget probably one of the hardest schedules this season

Lions x2
Bears x2
Vikings x2
49ers
Falcons
Redskins
Cowboys
Giants
Eagles
Bengals
Browns
Steelers
Ravens

The packers Linebackers, QB and from what I believe Eddie lacy can become. They still have decent talent. Even WR has Jordy Nelson (if he doesn't get hurt) and Randal Cobb doing great.

But they have so many holes now. and did horrible in the preseason.

I wouldn't worry too much about preseason, it rarely seems to indicate season success. But that schedule is indeed a disaster for them.

I've highlited the 3 matches where I see them being the clear favorites before the season starts. The only reason I don't consider Vikings, Lions, of course, is because of divisional rivals. There are never clear favorites there, and fans would be dumb to go into games thinking so--especially with GB/Vikings.

Packers should beat the Cowboys, Giants, and probably Redskins, but who knows at this point.

Came back, and I still see a lot more mentions of Giants before Skins. They split last year, and that's only because of a last minute 70 yard pass to Cruz, lifting the Giants over the Skins. The Skins defense was almost at the bottom of the league; arguably much better this year. Did the Giants really improve that much more than the Skins in the offseason?

btw: 49ers/Skins for NFC championship, 49ers to the Superbowl. <-- my prediction

As a Skins fan, I currently have no faith in the health of Bob3, and I think that is the real issue with everyone. He has a long history of such injuries, and recoveries, but his NFL history is currently too short to make a guess on his 2nd season.

The Giants and Eli have an established history of moping their way into the playoffs and managing to win the Superbowl--granted, the Skins were never a factor those years, but the Eagles were, so it's sort of a push?

Jaguars vs Rams in what will be one of the worst Superbowls ever.

sadly, tickets will still sell out at $2k each.

Redskins played a 4th place schedule last year, this year they have a 1st place schedule. That's two games against 4th place teams replaced by two games against 1st place teams. Good luck with that.

I think Kaepernick will be less effective this year.

Also Rodgers is due to have a not-great year. Hard to imagine, but his TD/INT ratio the past two years is something ridiculous like 87/14. You would think that has to average out a little bit sooner or later. Really hard to imagine him keeping on that pace. But if does, hot damn, good for him!

Says the biased Colts fan. I'm a Falcons fan and I hate the Saints but they were the better team.

They were the better team that day, but not overall. As I said, the Colts would beat the Saints 7 out of 10 times if they played 10 games.

Also, the Vikings were robbed in the NFC Championship that year.

I don't know if I believe it'll happen, but I WANT to see a modern Broncos vs Green Bay rematch.

The Denver Broncos vs. San Fransisco 49ers with Peyton taking home the Lombardi trophy!

That's what I came up with. I hate to go with the easy pick Superbowl favorites (originally was thinking maybe Pittsburgh), but I could find no reason why the Broncos shouldn't be the best team in the league this year. They got Peyton Manning, 3 great WRs in Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, and Eric Decker. They also got a veteran head coach, and a pretty solid defense (although perhaps not as good as last year).

I hope you're right but the highlighted part could just as easily be a knock on the Broncos. If they lose in the post season prior to the Super Bowl, I would bet dollars to donuts that it is because of John Fox's ultra conservative play calling, and inability to adapt to the better coaches around the league.

The Ravens Harbaugh out coached Fox badly in the playoffs last year and either Harbaugh could easily do so again. If we see a Harbaugh in the Super Bowl I could easily see us getting out coached and giving up a victory again a la Rahim Moore style.

All that being said, I think this is the most logical outcome - SF vs. Broncos. Which is why it won't happen!! The preseason favorites rarely make it to the end, and if one does - it's only one of the favorites not both.

Hoping for a Broncos vs. Falcons superbowl instead. Fox can't out coach many HC's in this league but Mike Smith is one that he could

It's the hardest schedule before the season starts which means nothing. Last year the Broncos had the hardest season on paper than anyone else in the league (by using wins of the teams previous year) and by the end of the season it turned out to be one of the easiest schedules. That could very easily happen this year.

What, exactly, are the issues you're referring to?

We don't have a great RB, but we didn't last year and we arguably got better even though we aren't great in that area. I'd venture to say we're better off than the Packers. Eddie Lacy will not have a good season relative to his draft position, and you don't have anyone behind him.

It's a fair point.

But we can pretty much go with the paper when it comes to what is going to happen with the AFC West this season.

Damn, almost had it! 49ers almost pulled out the upset but not quite. This is definitely not the year of the underdogs. Still have Denver winning the Superbowl though (they will be favored), and I still think they will.

vi edit got it right! Well done, sir. Kinda surprised he was the only one to pick a Denver/Seattle SB matchup (in this thread, anyways)

49ers, Seahawks, Falcons, GB and Chicago a further ways out...all teams with some talent (Bears an unknown with what Tressman brings). NFC is stacked.

Broncos are one of the few AFC teams that made upgrades and didn't lose mountains of talent. The Von Miller suspension will hurt but they have beefed up the secondary a bit.

I'm going Seattle and Denver Superbowl.

Fucking winner...

Woo! Winner winner seachicken dinner!

As for who wins the SB...the magic 8 ball says "check back later when you have a better idea of the weather".

If the weather is crap I give Seattle the edge.
