Well I like watching 3D tv/movies and I do buy 3D BD's so it is relevant to me since I'm not most people.

AOC also have one which is the same price as the Samsung and presumably the same panel, but it has a better stand (full rotation etc).
Not sure on the refresh rate though.

Going to order mine today.

I was going to pre-order, but ship date is mid-May in the UK, so not really worth it. In 6 weeks there could be more options out.

Edit: Caved. Amazon are now listing it for £20 less than Overclockers and a ship date of 1st May. So I pre-ordered, since Amazon don't take money until they ship unlike Overclockers who take it when you place an order.

I would prefer the AOC since it has a fully adjustable and swivel stand, but it's even further out for preorder dates and slightly more expensive, plus I'm not sure how realistic/necessary/useful a portrait mode 4k monitor would be...

I bought a Intel 160GB G2 SSD on dec 24th 2009 and it was just under $500.

And it was worth every penny, people were still complaining about ssd prices and sizes for a good 3 years after that.

While I was enjoying the speed and quiet since the 24th of that year.

I don't see 4k being viable just yet. Its not because of the price, nor is it because of the hardware requirements, but because of developeer support. Some games fail to load when displaying at 4k ( I'm looking at you, Sonic Generations and Race The Sun ), and even more games don't have proper UI scaling, making the text and HUD extremely difficult to read.

Hats off to the early adopters. If there is any group of people who will encourage developers to code with 4k support in mind, it will be them.

i got a 250gig SSD when they hit 500$ but that had more benefits vs a monitor that would require me to spend 3k on GFX cards to make useable

You do know that you use a monitor 100% of the time when you are at your computer, right?
You don't need a high power GPU to make it usable outside gaming

Plus a monitor will usually last across multiple builds. I bought a 96GB SSD, then replaced it with a faster 128GB SSD within a year or so when I built a new PC, and next time I upgrade I will probably replace the 128GB with something else.

My current monitor has been with me for 5 years or something and it's just a standard 24" 16:10 TN panel.

Paid a cool $150 for a 64gb Corsair Force back in 2011,then i moved up to a 80gb at about $100 in late 2012 and my 180gb cost less then $200 which i got last year.

Before 2011,i was a big WD Raptor fan, from the 74gb to the 300gb i had to have each lol.

While not 4K, the newly announced ASUS PG278Q with a 2560x1440 resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms response time and G-SYNC looks awesome! 4K is simply too difficult to drive at the moment although I still want it .

That thing looks awesome. Does anyone know if Asus's monitor division is separate in terms of RMA and customer service or not?

I won't do 4K myself personally awhile, unless they maybe start making 4K projectors cheap in the near future, which is unlikely.

My 4k reluctance is related to both gaming GPU power and even the desktop. Windows just doesn't scale well to large resolutions if the monitors aren't also equally large. While Windows itself is fine, many applications do not consider such resolutions.

I'm most likely going to get that 1440p G-sync monitor for my next upgrade.

wow just realized they sold the Samsung 4K on eBay. One of the sellers (dream-seller) is a popular seller, selling the cheap 27" 1440p monitors of last year. note that these ship from s. korea.

although, model # goes as U28D590 (so now we have U28D590D, LU28D590D, and U28D590). what's the diff???

and warranty? man, what if you have to pay shipping back to korea.. lol

Would be a hassle to return... that's why I stick to purchasing monitors off Amazon.
