wow just realized they sold the Samsung 4K on eBay. One of the sellers (dream-seller) is a popular seller, selling the cheap 27" 1440p monitors of last year. note that these ship from s. korea.

although, model # goes as U28D590 (so now we have U28D590D, LU28D590D, and U28D590). what's the diff???

and warranty? man, what if you have to pay shipping back to korea.. lol

I'm buying from the Same guy. I'm not worried about Warranty I will just put the monitor on my insurance and if it dies I will just get another one.

I bought a Intel 160GB G2 SSD on dec 24th 2009 and it was just under $500.

And it was worth every penny, people were still complaining about ssd prices and sizes for a good 3 years after that.

While I was enjoying the speed and quiet since the 24th of that year.

without people like you, i would not have been able today to buy a 60gb ssd for $60.

What sorcery is this, thread has 12 pages but can't view the last page:

Glitch or a new premium access feature on AT?

I didn't expect 4k/60Hz to drop below $1k so soon and as much, even with a (good) TN panel. I thought ~$700 price range maybe in Q1 2015.

I know a few here got them in, post first impressions!

This is an AT feature. The last page is created 1 post too soon. Every thread is the same. When you reach 25, a page 2 is made, but the 2nd page is not needed until 26 posts are made. This continues every multiple of 25.

We should get a list of display + GPU combos to see what works and what it can do, plus connection methods (DP vs HDMI etc). Would be a useful resource.
Maybe a Google Docs spreadsheet or something.

Still a month to wait for me though before I can try one out.

I ordered a second GPU and the monitor from ebay. I cannot wait.

This specific display should work like any other. It shouldn't have the issues that the Asus did at launch. It does not use MST as far as I know.

The problems might be more with older GPUs than the monitor itself.

NCIX has the Samsung on sale and in stock for $599 both in US and Canada (though Canada, for once, is cheaper :biggrin. Wish I could afford it...

EDIT: Added US URL.

$599 is tempting. I almost talked myself into it. I squeezed my rig untouched through the 1080p to 1440p upgrade but I would need a whole new system. Even if I blow serious cash on GPU upgrades, I would need a new mobo since this H67 has only 1 GPU slot, then I would have to upgrade from the i5 2400...

That's over $2k for 2 video cards, the monitor, mobo and CPU. And still questionable whether I would get the FPS in 4K that I am getting now at 1440p.
Hopefully I stick with my reasoning for a while and don't find myself at a check out with $2500 worth of parts at 3 am.

One thing is certain, this type of pricing so early in the 4k's lifespan is great for consumers.

GPU power isn't there yet for current titles, unless you lower settings a lot. I wouldn't go 4K if I was into lowering settings. I'm waiting for the Asus 1440p monitor and i'll need to upgrade to some serious GPU power for that. 4K? Forget it.

This. I had a UP3214Q for a week or so, returned it for other reasons, but my 780s in SLI did not cut it in a lot of games. Be prepared to lower settings. 4k looks great but frame rate trumps IQ for me.

This is the reason I don't understand why people are getting so hard up over 4k.

For gaming forget it the gpu power just isn't there yet unless you want to go with Quadfire or SLI quad.

Just not worth it.

Same here. The Resolution SOUNDS awesome. But unless you have plenty of budget to pump out the frame rate its not going to LOOK very good at all.

I do understand this, and the lack of higher than 60hz also affects me quite a bit, but games look really good at High and even medium settings these days and with the super high resolution, you gain quality in clarity as well.

It's a compromise, one that may not really be better or worse when all is taken into account, but then your desktop looks great.

I might as well skip 1440p entirely and get a 4k monitor for my first upgrade after I get my rig. I use my desktop for everything (I'll sell my laptop, it doesn't offer me anything I'll miss), so 4k has a lot to offer outside of gaming. For games that my GPU doesn't cut it, I'll use my current screen (a 1080p HDTV that's capable of at least 96Hz) until my next upgrade, which will probably include a GPU that can run 4k nicely. Or I may add a 2 780ti's if the budget is there and call it a day. But still, 4k seems it's here to stay, unlike 1440p/1600p which stayed out of most consumers' reach.

Well, some of us don't just game on our PCs. Coding loves monitor real estate - the more windows you can have - the better (having a debugger open for example, or other files etc.). And other professions can use it as well: editing videos. Editing RAW images. Monitoring multiple VMs. I can probably think of other uses. Another advantage of 4K (over 1440) is that it should still be very playable at 1080 without looking weird.
What I would like to see, at least until they can get the 4K part of it to run @120Hz would be something like we see in cameras - have the monitor do 4K at 60Hz but allow 1080 @120Hz. I think that should technically possible as the issue with doing 4K @120Hz is mostly bandwidth I believe (correct me if I'm wrong). That would truly let one enjoy all worlds at the same time until GPUs can handle 4K, which with these price drops on monitors should be sooner rather than later.

There is a flood of 7950s/280Xs hitting the market now due to cryptos taking a big plunge. I would think twin 280Xs could drive that resolution in Crossfire.

Couldn't resist and jumped on the NCIX deal. I'm crossing my fingers that Samsung will update the firmware to allow 1080p@120hz but even if they don't it will be fun to try 4k.

That's why I bought the UP3214Q initially. With the DPI bumped up a bit, text on a 32" 4K looks as sharp as a MBP Retina display, really nice for programming work. Sleep issues and PWM backlighting made me return it though

Agree on your second point, the option to run at 1080p@120Hz on these displays would be very nice.

Oh that stings. Had I waited 2 weeks I could have saved $150 and might have been able to get a new display (mine is shit, has a big backlight blotch right in the middle). Never again am I going to order a big ticket item from overseas. I guess I learned my lesson.

It's a good display though. If you have the horsepower it's well worth the $600.

FYI: The display is locked @ 60Hz so you can't overclock. If you try it either flickers or just comes back to 60Hz.

Oh, you ordered it from S. Korea, Wag?

It should have a scalar right? Have you tried downscaling it to 1920x1080p and messing with the refresh rate there?
