There's no way this engine will be a "detuned f1 engine"

The only similarities will be a v6 turbo. Revs, displacement and essentially every piece of the engine (pistons/cams/valves/crankshaft/etc) will be different.

You're right man. The F1 engines will be in the 1.x L range for high RPM's.

That's not going to work for a streetable car ...

Increase the displacement, lower the RPM's and shove it in the new NSX. In essence, it could be a version from that perspective.

It will share longitude twin turbo V6 90 degree as the F1, though. There's speculation this new NSX has a dry sump, too.

It's all speculation though. But it's still naive to think there won't be crossover engineering.

It would be a marketers wet dream, though.

I suppose we shall see.

I get the feeling that the NSX might be DOA. It can't beat the GTR in raw performance or price and I'll bet it doesn't look better or be as refined as the next gen R8, which it will be priced against.

I'm not a fan of the NSX front grille but yea, you take the R8, I'll somehow find a way to deal with my dislike.

Another heavy hybrid. *yawn*

NSX is supposed to be 3080lbs according to the project manager. Approx. 200 pounds lighter than the 458, approx. 400 pounds lighter than a V8 Coupe R8, 800 pounds lighter than a Nissan GT-R.

McLaren P1 (which is a hybrid) is 3,075 lb.

Damn heavy hybrids.

That's dry weight, add a passenger and all the fluids and you're approaching 3400lbs. I didn't say the 458 wasn't too heavy, it is (and so is the GT-R). IMO, the ideal weight for a sports car is < 2600 lbs, preferably as close to 1000 kg as possible. What made the F40 the greatest driver's car ever made, in the minds of most who have driven it, is its uncanny balance, combined with a perfect power/weight ratio. No TC or ESC, no ABS, just brilliant engineering. Right now I'm planning for one and shopping, but I need to hurry because values are spiraling upward.

Within a more modern context, the only thing that really comes close is the Noble M600, I drove one in Glasgow and I've never before, or since, been behind the wheel of anything more terrifying yet amazing. We (the US) can't have them though, of course, they're much too unsafe and scary and we need to be protected from ourselves. What a load of nanny state crap.
