That's dry weight, add a passenger and all the fluids and you're approaching 3400lbs. I didn't say the 458 wasn't too heavy, it is (and so is the GT-R). IMO, the ideal weight for a sports car is < 2600 lbs, preferably as close to 1000 kg as possible. What made the F40 the greatest driver's car ever made, in the minds of most who have driven it, is its uncanny balance, combined with a perfect power/weight ratio. No TC or ESC, no ABS, just brilliant engineering. Right now I'm planning for one and shopping, but I need to hurry because values are spiraling upward.
Within a more modern context, the only thing that really comes close is the Noble M600, I drove one in Glasgow and I've never before, or since, been behind the wheel of anything more terrifying yet amazing. We (the US) can't have them though, of course, they're much too unsafe and scary and we need to be protected from ourselves. What a load of nanny state crap.
