I wouldn't have a problem with the suspension if there were precedent for similar hits in these playoffs, and even in previous years. Seems kind of out of the blue.

^ I didn't see the other plays on video, but I'm guessing the severity and violence of the impact to the naked eye? The NHL suspension video clearly stated "what causes this infraction to rise to the level of supplemental discipline, is the force with which the hit was delivered, and the significant head contact". You can make contact with the head but it may not be the principle point of contact, which is why it depends even if you leave your feet.

Also, a lot of times, you leave your feet as a result of making contact. I've seen that happen countless times. So a still picture doesn't help.

I did see all three of those and the fact is that the Abdelkader boarding was probably the most violent of the three and easily the most dangerous because he had no chance to protect himself after being tripped by Stamkos who was called for hooking I think. Garrison charged a helpless man and boarded him. So yea suspending Kronwall for his hit after letting all this other crap go defies reasonable explanation. Totally inappropriate to do in this situation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsSFH77gUdk just saw it.

You're from MI so I'm sure you see it differently, but what I see is Abdelkader was already falling awkwardly from the hook and Garrison didn't even hit him in the head, maybe his torso did and that was on accident. He did launch himself at him not yet realizing he was falling and never hit him all that badly. Non-issue. That's not boarding if you're nearly facing each other. Abdelkader is lucky he wasn't hooked completely around facing the boards.

Had he not been hooked he would've cleared it off the boards and had his shoulder/back against it. It may have been a high hit after that but we'll never know where the contact would've been made.

I am not commenting on whether its a penalty or not because i am not knowledgeable on that, but i do see contact to the head. It looks to me like the #5's hip smashes Abdelkader's head into the boards. When you see him start to go down he turns his back to the boards, and then #5 hits him quite hard and his hip is in the guys face.

Agian i don't know about the penalty part but holy crap that had to hurt.

Not to mention Abdelkader actually had to go to the quiet room for 10 minutes. Kucherov got to the bench, said he was fine, and told the trainer to "go away"

When I saw it in real time the first thing I thought was why was Palat allowed to take 6 strides to make a hit. OK, I'll assume Palat was just striding to the play, well then you have to give up on the hit otherwise it's charging.

NHL has it in for Detroit. Can't have a successful hockey team in a poor state. Gotta have that team in a state where people have disposable income!

Bettman, that colossal douche bag, is clearly rooting for Tampa in this series. Not that he has anything to do (directly) with suspending players. I just hope he gets hit by a train.

Should send Bertuzzi after him.

Yeah the league definitely wants Tampa to move on to the next round over Detroit and play Montreal. Playoff matches between original six teams always draw terrible ratings.

I think this is the first time in the history of the world that anyone has ever suggested the nhl is favoring Tampa over Detroit lol.

Suspension was based on past history and has not seemed to make and difference in the game today.

im glad tampa won but the NHL is not consistent in disciplinary action.

that being said, detroit gave tampa bay a hard time last night anyway. i didnt think tampa was going to pull it off.

Detroit had the better game, by a very wide margin, but couldn't get the job done. Bummer.

Oh well. Next year will be 25 years in a row. A cup would be a great thing to add to that accolade.

That's the same story every 1st round exit in the last 16 or so seasons....They where an average team since the end of February, just look at their record, if you can't win back to back games then you are not going far.

What 16 seasons are you referencing? Detroit has made playoffs every seasons since 90-91, and has won cups in four of those years, making the finals in an additional two.

Well it seems that every early round series that they have lost since the 2nd cup back in '98 they have done the same damn thing...usually outshooting/playing the opposite teams...been watching the Wings since the 87-88 season...usually quite optimistic on their chances.
