^^Have you looked into a Tribeca? The gas mileage on the B9 is lower than the average but if you can overlook that its a very nice ride.

I think I would have to go with the 4runner over a tribeca considering the gas mileage is similar. Actually, I was pretty close to purchasing a 4runner but couldn't reach quite reach what I wanted to pay. Someone on the 4runner forum posted the deal they were able to get on a 4runner which is exactly what I was looking to pay so I contacted the dealer with my offer and they responded that the offer was reasonable and would be willing to accept it. I asked them to send me the offer in writing to which they replied it is their policy not to provide that information (wtf?). I figured it was a bait and switch or they would tack on random fees if I went in to purchase it. Since they are pretty far away (Miami) I loled and moved on.

The 4Runner is a completely different type of vehicle. It has a part time transfer case versus a full time AWD system.

True, but the vast majority of the time I don't really need AWD. In the instances where I do, part time would be just fine. Of course the 4runner limited does have a full time system, not that I was ever considering that version.

The 4runner is too truckish with its body on frame for me. Anyways I mentioned the B9 to keep with the Subie theme. And the Subie VTD is the shit.

Props to you for the custom dash trim. It was my biggest interior gripe with my '05 Legacy. But on the other hand I didn't spend any money on the stereo....so maybe a blessing in disguise LOL.

Thanks man. When we bought the B9 the factory option was over $5K. I was like screw that, I can do better. The Pio nav unit was under $900 and the rear display was $400, the ebay replacement faceplate was $150 iirc, and then pac steering kit, looms, paint match ($60). All told under $1.5K vs $5K, and the Pio is obviously leagues better than the stock nav.

Oh you had a 05 Leggy? I did too, er the wife drove a 05 LTD Wagon, till she went to the B9. In the link of pics, the first pics you see are the HVAC controls from the Legacy. Iirc to swap to an aftermarket you need to special order the AVO JDM HVAC controller. That's the one in the pic. But I guess that's old news now.

They just keep getting bigger (maybe because Americans just keep getting bigger). I have an 05 Forester and love it. Most reliable car I've ever owned, but I wouldn't buy a current one, nor an Outback. They just keep growing bigger and bigger.

I have a 14 Forester and the lumber in the seats bothers me too. But I've done some 1000 mile trips in it and I don't think I am much worse than in any other car. I wish you could fully take out the lumber support and have a flat back.

Somebody else already posted the new dimensions and weight that aren't that much higher than the old gen.

The 2005 legacy had 5.9-6.1" ground clearance, the 2016 has 5.9" ground clearance. Basically the same. You guys are blowing this way out of proportion.

Dimensions can be deceitful. The cars are more bulbus. Find some stats that show the cars size in volume and I'd bet you'd find their far far larger.

Yes, that was one of the big improvements of the 2010 legacy/outback over previous generations - the exterior dimensions got only a bit larger by an inch or two, but somehow Subaru designers managed to squeeze in a lot of interior volume in the new generation. Stylistic preferences aside it looks like you're arguing against interior space. Now, I can understand someone preferring 2000-2009 legacy/outback style, I quite like them myself, I think that design will age very well, but those cars were tiny on the inside, the back seats didn't have any legroom at all. It's one thing to argue the new gen doesn't look as good, but ranting against more interior space?

Just got a quote for $33.2k from dealer B on a 3.6R with only package 23 (eyesight+nav+moonroof) which is about $150 cheaper than the quote from dealer A. The downside is that I would have to order it and wait quite a while. Dealer A says 6-8 weeks and Dealer B says 8-12 weeks. The only other option would be to get one off the lot for $34.5k with a ton of options I don't really need. A few of the options are marginally useful (remote start, all weather mats, rear seat back protector, rear bumper guard, exterior auto dimming mirrors) but most are superfluous (side moldings, wheel arc moldings, splash guards). I just don't feel all of these extras are really worth another $1.3k+tax on the 1.3k. Another downside is the vehicles on the lot probably already have front license plates holes drilled into the bumper which I don't need in my state.

There shouldn't be any difference in delivery time when ordering. I think one dealer is just being more conservative with their time estimate.

I really want to like the Subaru Remote Start but I really dislike that the engine turns off when you open the door. In our GMC the engine ran the whole time; unlock the door, get in, insert key and off we went. Plus it even turned on the butt heaters if it was really cold out

IMHO the most useful accessory is the rear bumper cover (top surface, I believe the bumper guard is on the bottom for looks only) and auto-dimming side mirrors. I love those on our Fozzy.

Definitely agree on the bumper guard since I have a scratch or two on my current vehicle from loading bikes but, I was just planning to order the part and install it myself to save a bit of mula. I was going to do the same with the rear seat covers since those also come in handy when putting in a dirty bike.

I actually think the extra body trims make the vehicle look worse so I definitely wouldn't want those.

If you order the accessories with the car they'll be port-installed and there's no installation fee. That said, you can purchase them separately (and cheaper) and install yourself. You'll only pay for installation if you have the dealer install them.

I suppose the depends on how you define "marginally". Longer wheelbase, taller, heavier. The numbers don't lie.

I am with you. I still drive my 2000 OBW Limited with 217,000 miles on it. I was going to move to a newer model Outback but they are just too large.

Since I only have 217K miles on it I will probably just drive it until it dies at 350K miles:thumbsup: unless Subaru ever imports the diesel Outback to the US.

Gave a 2.5 limited a very quick test drive after work today at a different dealership. I'll probably go in again on the weekend to take it on the interstate. I still think I would go with a 3.6 despite the huge mileage penalty.

We have V6 Accord with 3.5L that has comparable output to 3.6H, and 2013 Legacy with 2.5L. I don't think 2.5L is that bad. It has some power. It is not 6 cyl zippy, but it is tolerable.

I wish they had 2.5L turbos in Legacy/Outback, those would not have huge fuel economy hit.

I'm definitely waiting until I can test drive one of those small stubby SUVs (2017 Forester) before I make a decision since it would wind up costing me a lot less. The Outback is still very high on the list though, as is the Ford Edge. The only others things holding me back form purchasing now is that my Versa still works no problems and I'm cheap.
