The trunk sucks. What's with this narrow opening?

What if you want to drop the rear seat and put a bicycle or Ikea furniture in the back?
Mazda6:

Is it something about Camry rear suspension that is blocking the opening with struts?
Also, on design front, what's with the fake side window on the rear pillar?

The Mazda6 has room for 3 dead hookers in the trunk. I am quite pleased with the storage capacity.

Not a bad looking car. Still one of the best Sofa on wheels.

Is that trunk pic from the Gas or Hybrid version? It does look a bit too small....

Get a truck. The Camry is not made to haul furniture or bikes.

I just take off my quick release front wheel and throw/slide my bike in behind the Camry's front seats...

So you are saying don't get a Camry if you occasionally need to carry Ikea furniture or a bicycle in the back, as many people do. That's what I am saying too. But there is no need to get a truck, many cars of Camry's size can carry things like that just fine with the seats folded.

1996 was the pinnacle of their design. It went downhill from there.
fixed for you

Family's 1996 is still chugging along. id also say its better than alot of the shitboxes that i rented in recent years (cobalt, G6, aveo, etc)

id refuse to buy any sedan that doesnt have fold down seats for this reason

That's what I wanted to ask too.

What the hell is that little triangle of black and chrome for? Looks ridiculous.

I think it is filler to keep the chrome line and C-pillar matching the line drawn from the A-pillar back. It looks really bad. They should have extended the rear door and/or door glass if they want to fill that space.

I just noticed my Mazda6 has it too, but thankfully it doesn't look nearly as stupid.

The trunk in my 2012 Camry Hybrid is decent sized but you aren't going to get much in the way of furniture or a bike in there. I installed a trailer hitch on mine so I can put a hitch rack on it for carrying bicycles. Works great and doesn't affect mileage very much at all.

BTW-The Camry Hybrid has a pass-through in the trunk which the Honda Accord Hybrid doesn't have. I've used mine a few times. Very useful feature IMO.

I love this car. Averaging 40+mpg in mostly city driving is awesome!

Why are you renting those, and not the new camry? I have been for the last few days, and the 2014 is not bad at all.

Excellent car for the daily commute. You can't beat Toyota quality and reliability. I would never buy one though. Too bland.

I'd say 1996 was pinnacle of design for Camry, not 2006.

The 1996 Camry wagon my mom just bought provides a far superior ride and noise level compared to the 2007 Corolla-based Matrix my mom bought brand new in 2007. The seats also don't kill be my back like the Matrix. I now wonder if all Corollas provide such a crappier ride compared to its bigger mid-sized brother.

Obviously the mid 90's was the pinnacle of Toyota/Honda quality. Simple, robust engineering that just plain works.
