Another execution fail by the 49ers. You benched Kap in favor of Blaine freaking Gabbert last year and then let him get hurt, and this year rather than trading him for a bag of peanuts or cutting him outright you allow yourself to get stuck with his entire guaranteed salary for the year. GG guys.
Colin Kaepernick's $11.9 million salary is now officially guaranteed for 2016.
The practical effect is that Kaepernick's release is no longer an option. He could still agree to a reduced salary as a means to facilitate a trade, with the tradeoff being he receives some guarantees for 2017. NFL.com's Albert Breer believes things have "thawed a little" between the Niners and their quarterback. Perhaps letting his salary become official is a show of good faith Kap will take to heart
And completely unrelated to football, but with baseball starting on Sunday I thought this composite GIF of all the pitch types a typical pro hurler throws was interesting. If you've ever been watching pro baseball and looking at a fat dude like Pablo Sandoval and saying "if Fat Panda can play in the MLB then I sure as hell could too" then look at this GIF and see what it's like trying to hit a pitched ball. Some random dude like me would be lucky just to hit the ball and put it in play, much less ever have regular success.
Now try deciding what location you need to swing the bat while the ball is coming at you this speed, don't think too hard because you only have a few milliseconds to decide:
