I'm sure it was good, I still haven't seen it. I'm a Ruffalo fan...I will see it some day. ...but come the fuck on--it wins nothing else, and suddenly best picture. I know all of these awards should technically be mutually exclusive, but they really aren't when you think about merit.
It makes me think the voters just get together and collude on how to distribute awards some years. I think the Oscars is usually pretty good most years, but this was just a very strange way to vote.
What do you mean nothing else: it won the best original screenplay. To me that's like the closest to the best movie, or maybe same importance as best director. Mad max won a lot, but mostly technical awards: costume design, sound editing and what-not. Revenant would be closer with director and best actor, but I don't find Spotlight really coming out as a winner suddenly...I'm sure it was good, I still haven't seen it. I can see it now, I have a free PPV coupon for Dish. But I will wait and see if it comes on HBO or something later, use the coupon for something else. I watched The Martian with 1 of the 2 coupons.
