Bit of a let down ending to what was a pretty entertaining show for a change.

It just fizzled out badly.

Spotlight is just boring as hell, my two cents.

I'm sure it was good, I still haven't seen it. I'm a Ruffalo fan...I will see it some day. ...but come the fuck on--it wins nothing else, and suddenly best picture. I know all of these awards should technically be mutually exclusive, but they really aren't when you think about merit.

It makes me think the voters just get together and collude on how to distribute awards some years. I think the Oscars is usually pretty good most years, but this was just a very strange way to vote.

It won writing for original screenplay also.

What do you mean nothing else: it won the best original screenplay. To me that's like the closest to the best movie, or maybe same importance as best director. Mad max won a lot, but mostly technical awards: costume design, sound editing and what-not. Revenant would be closer with director and best actor, but I don't find Spotlight really coming out as a winner suddenly...
That said, I haven't seen any of these 3 movies, Martian is the only one I've seen of all 9...

I like a well written screenplay myself.

Still seemed a farce to me, Spotlight is like watching paint dry.

Wow who will actually see the best picture?

I can see it now, I have a free PPV coupon for Dish. But I will wait and see if it comes on HBO or something later, use the coupon for something else. I watched The Martian with 1 of the 2 coupons.

mad max, Martian or Revenant were all amazing movies.

Still as far as 15 minutes of fame goes, Andy Weir the writer of the Martian had nice run. Self published web novel gets book deal and movie deal in the same week. Book goes on to be a New York Times Best seller. Movie gets made by Ridley Scott, Matt Damon, and Drew Goddard, makes $620+ mil at the box office. Wins Golden Globes and gets nominated for 8 Academy Awards.

Meh, disagree. It felt a bit like All The President's Men to me; not as good as that of course, but still a very good journalism procedural.

I missed that. I guess my attention span is ~2 hours.

spotlight was a great flick. it took what is really some dry material and made it riveting. glad it won, although the only other movie i have seen that deserved it was max max. revenant was like 40 minutes too long, albeit a beautifully shot 40 minutes. didn't see a minute of the oscars, was at an NPR MOTH Story Hour GRANDSLAM event in Brooklyn. now that was worth my time.

I didn't care for Brooklyn when I first found out about it when Saoirse Ronan did an interview. However, I've since been spammed with advertising daily on TV and YouTuve, now I may rent it...

chris rock as host:

cringe worthy moments:
-that girl saying she's been appointed by Chris as director of diversity
-girl scout cookies
-Vivian fox giving tribute to black history month by praising Jack Black (who is white)
-those 3 little Asian kids coming out as Price Cooper Waterhouse auditors

powerful moment:
-Lady Gaga and her song. she was REALLY into it.
was she molested/raped when she was young?

I will say it. I am a white guy and I did not like Chris Rock at all. Seems like no one wants to say if for fear of being called a racist. At least none of the reviews that I have read will come out and say they did not like it.

Jedi, you forgot the "when grandma is swinging from a tree" line. And yes I believe Lady Gaga has said she is a survivor, as she said it.
