I will say it. I am a white guy and I did not like Chris Rock at all. Seems like no one wants to say if for fear of being called a racist. At least none of the reviews that I have read will come out and say they did not like it.

Jedi, you forgot the "when grandma is swinging from a tree" line. And yes I believe Lady Gaga has said she is a survivor, as she said it.

I've always liked Chris Rock and I didn't mind last night, but it definitely went on a little thick at times. And I get that Chris Rock has always been somewhat polarizing. The only part that was really awkward for me was the grandma swinging from a tree, which certainly got some audience groans.

But, you knew he was gonna come out swinging and to his credit, he managed to make both sides of this issue uncomfortable, which is a good thing, imo. He's always been rather critical of popular black culture in his routine while at the same time retaining the support of that culture. I think that takes some skill and a good set of balls.

I thought Louis CK 1min monologue for introducing best short documentary was funnier than chris rock's entire time hosting. am I alone?

and wtf was up w/the Suge Knight jokes?
Was that really Suge?
isn't he supposed to be in jail?

and I've never would have guessed Suge being part of the butt end of jokes?

1) partial agreement, Louis CK's intro was fucking hilarious. The challenge is making that last for a 3 hour show.

2) That's the actor who played Suge on "Straight Outta Compton" reprising his role for the oscars

Louis CK was awesome. I also thought Gosling was awesome (agree to disagree). Rock was hit and miss for the parts I saw, though I do generally like him. It just went on a little too thick for a little too long, though that was probably the point.

The guy on the acoustic guitar was very very good , was the highlight for me . Hard to do outside of a studio , unless you have a lot of talent .

I laughed at that. The awkward part was Stacey Dash.

chris rock as host:

cringe worthy moments:
-that girl saying she's been appointed by Chris as director of diversity
-girl scout cookies
-Vivian fox giving tribute to black history month by praising Jack Black (who is white)
-those 3 little Asian kids coming out as Price Cooper Waterhouse auditors

The whole show was crass...
-the Jack Black joke was kinda funny.
-Stacy Dash bit was awkward as hell.
-2 Asian kids and a jewish girl was really bad.
-endless black rant became very tiring and it might shock black America but not everyone cares about the Oscars.

Yes it was a bit lighter and funnier then droning on about race issues.

His movies pretty much suck. He's mildly amusing at times but only briefly.

Chris Rock and some of the black activists have simply grown up in a generation where you expect equality outcome and quotas (affirmative action) when it comes to black people, and only when it comes to black people, and it must come at the expense of everyone else, or it's not fair or "racist". But if blacks are the majority in any successful endeavor, eh it's just a meritocracy.

Asians and Hispanics have had 3 nominations for best actor in the history of the academy awards and you don't see any of them chanting in the streets, whereas blacks have actually won best actor more at the oscars than their population percentage since 2000 (14% vs 12%).

As if she wasn't bad enough in CSI, can't even say "Rocky" without fumbling.

Wish Mad Max got best picture because it totally deserved it. Tom Hardy totally should have won best supporting actor for his role in Mad Max.

Revanent was overrated. Leo basically gets the oscar because everyone feels bad for him at this point.

revanent had some cool challenges about it. They used only natural lighting for it. Leo winning for this role is kinda bitter sweet. I think some of his previous rolls were better but he gets it for this introspective.

Tom Hardy was up for best supporting in The Revenant, I guess they figured both out of one movie was too much. He was kinda supposed to be the main in Fury Road of course. It's kinda of hard to be a supporting when the movie is named Mad Max. But I know where you're going with that one

Finally watched Spotlight all the way through, was good, but I still think best picture was a stretch.
